SAT & ACT Choices

I’m a HS Senior applying EA to about 5 schools. I took the SAT, ACT, and SAT II’s, but I don’t know what scores to send or not send in. I took the SAT twice, but I did better on every section the second time, so I don’t have to worry about super-scoring. I took the ACT once without studying, so I’m taking it again October 24. I just took physics and Math 1&2 SAT II’s in October, so I get my scores on the 22nd. Here’s the scores I know so far:

SAT: 2160
-Math: 700
-CR: 750
-Writing: 710

ACT: 34
-Math: 34
-Reading: 35
-Science: 33
-English/ Writing: 31

I got an 8 on each essay, so writing shouldn’t factor in this decision too heavily. I know that a 34 ACT transfers into a SAT higher than 2160, but I’m applying to engineering programs and think that my ACT math is higher than the SAT math score.

Any advice on which to send?

Just send the ACT. No sense in paying to send the lower SAT too.

If your SAT subject tests are really good, like 750+, send those to your more selective schools too. Otherwise I don’t think they’re necessary.

Absent a cost issue, you should probably just send both. In that situation the college will use that test it believes has the better score. Though the online conversion tables show your ACT as higher than your SAT, it is not by much, those tables are guidelines not rules necessarily followed by any particualr college, are dated in that they are based on a comparison study done 8 years ago by ACT and the College Board, and many colleges consider the most important section scores to be math and CR on the SAT, and math and English (which you do not provide since you provide only the combined English and writing score) on the ACT.

Also be aware that if you are applying to Gtech or Rose Hulman you should definitely send both because those two engineering colleges superscore the combination of the SAT and ACT tests, e.g., for both colleges, your ACT math and SAT CR will be the scores used.

@jackrabbit14 That makes sense. It’d be ridiculous to send both to all of the colleges. However, I am taking @drusba 's advice and plan sending both to my reach schools. Thanks everyone!
