Ok, so if you are in the top 10% of your class, doesn't that mean that your SAT/ACT scores should be ranked in the 90th percentile (27/1200) or better. OR, if you're in the top 1%, shouldn't your scores be like 99th percentile (30s)?

Do colleges look down on applicantes whose SAT/ACT percentiles are lower than their class rank percentiles, or do they blame the high schools?

As far as I'm aware, no colleges match national SAT percentiles with your own high school class rank. It simply doesn't make sense because some of the private schools have students in the top 15% scoring 1400+ on their SATs, while some other high school might only have one or two people scoring in that range.

If they wanted to compare anything between SATs and class rank, it would be that if you are ranked high in your class, your SAT/ACT scores should be higher compared to our applicants from your school.

No, they measure two COMPLETELY different things. SAT/ACT is your logical ability while your class rank is more of how hard you work with some of how smart you are. I am a perfect example of this, I recieved the top SAT score at my school with a 1470, while our valedictorian got a 1400. I am currently ranked 10, and there are only 2 people above me got/were likely to get near 1400.

I have had a job since my freshman year while being really involved outside of school. No person ahead of me comes close to working as many hours as I do to my knowledge, and this has stunted my ability to keep up with homework. Basically, like I said before, they are completely different measurements... the #2 student at my school got a 25 on her ACT or ~1140.

Class rank is seperate, most of the people above me have an amazing work ethic and that is what gives them their rank and they deserve it. There is possibility that there is some connection, but there doesn't have to be because of the fact that they measure different things.

lol guys i have near-perfect sat i and sat ii scores while my class rank is top 30-40%. being smart doesn't make me any better at doing busywork.

Your class rank is compared to people that arent neccesarily college-bound, so your class rank perecentage should show you are better than your SAT scores.

Lol...only smarter people that want to go to college take the SAT, so you are competing against smarter people, so your percentage for SAT will be lower. At public schools a lot of people don't go to college, so naturally you will do better than them!

GPA shows how hard you work every day, while SAT shows some of your natural reasoning ability. SAT II, however, should reflect your GPA if you're a good student.
If it doesn't, it probably means your school's too easy..
