SAT? ACT? So confused.

Hello. I am going to be a freshman in 2 weeks. From what I understand, you take the PSAT in 10th and 11th grade for national merit, and you take the SAT&ACT in 11th and 12th grade. Now I have a few questions. Do all SAT and ACT Scores stay on your record? Do all PSAT scores stay on your record? also, my school is making me take the ACT in freshman year. what happens if I do bad and it stays on my record? I took the SAT once in 6th grade and got a horrible score. that was before I started studying of course. I got a 1290. these days on practice tests, I get 1900-2300 range. What if that one score ruins my chances of getting into my dream college Johns Hopkins? I am soo confused. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

9th Grade - Generic State testing (Aims)?
10 NMQST/PSAT - a predictor of the PSAT-Does not count for PSAT
11 PSAT in October- (A high enough score could earn a scholarship)
11-12 SAT

As far as the SAT goes, no one really knows how the NMSQT & PSAT comes into play. I suppose it can’t hurt if one can demonstrate score consistency year after year.

If possible, I’d opt out of the ACT, freshman year, It serves no real purpose. GL

I, too, would opt out of the ACT freshman year. It just doesn’t help to have a low score, and it will hurt you down the road because colleges frown upon taking the ACT more than 3 times, and you might need those 3 later on in 11th/12th grade so wasting one Freshman year isn’t a great idea. Take a full practice test of you really want the exposure.

However, colleges see the date you took each test. So if that 1290 was somehow sent, they would see you were like 12 and wouldn’t think much of it at all lol. Not only that, but very few colleges don’t allow score choice so for the majority of schools you apply to you can pick and choose what to send.

Your PSAT score won’t count for college admission. The Jr year will just count for Nat’l Merit which can be beneficial if you get a designation.

Having freshmen take the ACT is totally useless.

No college will care what you got on the SAT in 6th grade. That was just used for talent search.
