SAT againn??

Hi, I'm new to CC so bear with me if this is in the wrong area.

I've been seriously looking at columbia for quite some time now. The only thing I really see potentially holding me back are my SAT scores. I have taken the SAT twice. First time 2220 (720CR 740M 760W) and second time 2210 (770CR 730M 720W). Now I noticed that Columbia accepts the January SAT and that I might still have time to sign up for that. I'm really only looking to bring up my math score (hopefully over 750). That way my superscore will be higher.

My question is would it be better to try to take the SAT again to bring up my math (or potentially do worse than both times) or to stick with the score i have? I guess it boils down to how much does columbia really value the superscore and if taking the SAT three times depreciates the score.

Look at the ED Decision Topic. You should get the general sense that once an applicant passes a certain SAT score, the SAT score itself no longer matters. A couple 2300s+ were rejected. Many 2300s+ got deferred.

I personally think you are good, but if you want to, then go ahead.

SAT makes up a tiny portion of your admissions portfolio. Seriously, there are people who got in with less than 2200, and people were rejected with more than a 2200. What really matters is your GPA, ECs, Essays. It’s those that set you apart. Everyone takes the SAT. If you score great on it, which you did, they look at it, say “nice,” go examine other things. It’s not worth the time and money to retake it in my opinion. It also don’t look good when they see that you have taken it many many times.

With a superscore of 2270, you are fine. My Columbia son had that score (one sitting). Columbia suggests that you not take the SAT more than twice. I would take their advice.

thank you! i think i will just stick with my score. i appreciate the help!

Don’t bother re-taking the SAT. Columbia tends to care less about super-high SAT scores than some of its peer schools. If you have a 2250+ superscore, you’re already in a fairly high percentile. It’s your grades, extracurriculars, and especially your essays that will make the difference now.

@pwoods: just curious, which peer schools do care about the super-high SAT scores?

Yeah dude, I would say youre fine. But I also think it wouldn’t hurt to take it again if you really want to

Hpy…

Princeton, Harvard, and Yale tend to weight the SAT score more heavily. Brown, like Columbia, does not weight SAT scores as strongly.
