SAT and AP Language and Composition Essays

Hey,
I was wondering how much a connection there is between these two because my AP Lang teacher makes us write an essay every week.
I am taking the SAT in March and was wondering how much time I should devote to the essay portion if I am doing this prep.

Thanks

I got a 5 on the AP Lang & Comp test and then only a 10/12 and then 8/12 on my two sat essays (I took it twice). I see no correlation between the two because the 8/12 essay was phenomenal in my opinion, but the SAT readers thought otherwise. I think the SAT is looking for more basic mastery of writing skills, so while 4 well-developed paragraphs would be fine for the AP test, you’d probably be better going with the traditional 5 for the SAT. Also, the only reason that I could possibly think of as to why I got a 10 on the first essay is because I used a ridiculous amount of big words, so really flex your vocabulary muscle if you have one (that probably applies to both tests).
As to the time devotion, I would probably say none. I find that studying for the SAT is useless and rarely yields any significant success. This probably sounds discouraging, but you either know how to write the way they want or you don’t and a month of studying is not going to change that.
