NM app student portion complete. Next call to NM will be to confirm that NM has received the actual submission from the school.
On another board someone was seeking to confirm that the deadline for their child to submit was 10/12. Please keep in mind that is not what the letter states. The student has to complete their app and then it routes to the school for completion of the school portion. The school does the actual submission of the final application. Your child does not have until 10/12 to complete, the school has to submit by 10/12.
I just wanted point out some helpful info I read from @mom2collegekids posted somewhere that you can have the SAT score sent to NMCorp as one of your 4 freebies on the SAT Subject tests. That’s what our son did and I confirmed it via a phone call this morning. So if someone had a kid take the Subject tests this past weekend and need to send a confirming SAT score, you probably still have a few days to add NMCorp to your list of places to be sent to for free.
@paveyourpath my daughter just submitted her portion tonight and there was a message on the screen that says once you submit you can check your school’s submission status by logging onto your NMSC account.
Nice to be done with this! Hoping for her first college admission decision this month or next, but she still has a bunch of essays to polish up before Nov. 1st, and then a bunch more before the regular deadline of Jan. 1. Fortunately her principal has been so supportive about National Merit and told her he was highly confident she would be selected a finalist. Only one of her schools of interest doesn’t offer anything to NMF’s and of course it’s her first choice :-S
@JBStillFlying Congrats on the submission! My son neglected to tell me that part about being able to check on the NMSF app site but I logged in to save a copy of the app and discovered it then. I love that! I’ll be checking on the status early next week to make sure it says it has been completed. Only one of the schools of interest on my son’s life offers anything to NMF and it’s in the top 4 and offers $20K/yr. Good luck to your daughter with the apps!
A word of caution, make sure NMSC has the correct Sat score. Last year after completing all requirements I called NMSC in late Dec. to make sure my S app. was completed and all items received. I was told that it was complete and nothing more was needed. The third week of Jan. he received a letter stating that his SAT score was not high enough to proceed on in the comp. We came to find out that they had inserted a diff students SAT score in his file and his 2240 was never received after 6 weeks from College board. It took two weeks to of constant work to correct NMSC and CB’s mistakes. He was moved on to Nat. Merit Finalist but ended up choosing a school that did not award anything for NMF.
Make sure they have your file and your info when you talk to NMSC
If a student gets a 40 on one section of the SAT, will NMSC convert that to a 38 when calculating the Selection Index because the PSAT only goes up to 38? For example, a student with Reading 38, Writing 40, and Math 34 on the SAT would have an SI of 224 if the 40 were kept, but if it were converted to a 38 the SI would be 220.
No. They do not dial back the SAT score to a “PSAT equivalent scaling”. The new tests are vertically aligned for purposes of measuring academic progress and establishing grad benchmarks; however, National Merit just requires that you score something equivalent to the minimum PSAT cut-off on an absolute basis.
