Help! I'm a mess because I thought I had being a National Merit Scholar in the bag.

Now they updated the score equivalent and I really dont know which on e is correct. Can someone tell me what the qualifying score (NMS Index) is for a California student. Thanks!!!

??

Are you a junior? We need more info. What is your score? index?

Yes I am a junior.cPSAT score 1440/1520. Index score 215. Reacently (in January) they updated the qualifying score predictions but I was wondering what you guys think/have researched.

Down there lol

No one would yet know what the qualifying score is yet for Calif. Since you have an index score of 215, you may be close to the cut-off, but no one knows. I think some have estimated that the Calif cut-off with be between 210-215, but that is just an educated guess.

Others have estimated that the CA cutoff will be around 220. No one will know for sure until next September or so.

I’d be surprised if Calif’s cut-off is 220. Wasn’t it 221 or 222 for this last cycle? If so, aren’t the predictions that the numbers will drop by 5-10 pts?

For the class of 2016, the California cutoff was 223. Some of us have used the Preliminary PSAT/NMSQT Concordance Tables provided by CB to convert this year’s reading, writing and math scores to the previous year’s scores, and vice versa. This has led some of us to guess that the top cutoffs may come down a few points, the intermediate ones may stay the same, and the lowest cutoffs may actually be higher. For example, if one scored 67 in each of the three tests last year for a SI of 201, this would convert (according to the tables) to this year’s scores of 70, 70, 66 (after multiplying by 2) for a SI of 206. Some people think that the score concordance tables are not reliable for making these predictions. Therefore this is just a guess on my part and not something you can rely on.

I don’t understand why you were so confident of being a NM scholar.

No one knows until all of the scores come in.

sorry but there is no reason to think that Calif’s scores would drop that much.
So shake it off and focus on your grades, which are FAR, FAR more important to colleges than NM status.
