So I took the March SAT and earned a 620 on the writing portion. I looked, and I only missed 4 multiple choice questions, so I'm betting that my cringing score of 6 on the essay is what really brought me down (or there was just a really harsh curve). My question is, is there anyway for me to improve my essay up to a 10? I'm really at a lost as to what I should be doing to prep for the October one this fall (making sure I have enough time to do some focused study without as much school work).

Any advice would be helpful. :) Thanks, guys.

Fill out the 2 pages and read this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html

I only practiced by writing 1 essay the night before the SAT after reading this. I got a 10 in January. I suggest reading the archetypes http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/764514-sat-essay-prompt-archetypes.html and coming up with examples for each. I had about 10 historical and literary examples all in all and could recycle them for each question.

During the SAT, fill out BOTH pages from top to bottom. Use the format stated above and use 3 examples (literary, historical, and personal). Have a good conclusion and this should bring you to at least a 10.

I have a liitle question: does SAT consider plagiarism? I usually take examples from Wikipedia or the ones provided by my teacher. Since these sources are open to public I wonder if someone uses, or has used my example with the exact wording (my classmates, for example), will my score get cancelled?

Also is it true that any figure, if best exemplifies the thesis, can be used? I find Hitler a quite resourceful example, but am afraid that the examiners will have a bad impression on my essay (I was even told not to use the word ‘furor’, which means ‘an outbreak of public anger or excitement’, because it sounds like ‘fuhrer’, which is Hitler’s title).
