Today I got my SAT scores back and was sorely disappointed with my score on the essay. It felt so good writing it and I was expecting a high score but instead got a 7. And so my question is... When writing an essay for the SAT, should you give it your own flare and really make it creative and interesting to follow or should you make it scholarly with big word choice and respectable facts? I really gave the essay I wrote my own voice and am wondering if that is what I was penalized for. Do the essay graders get tired and lose there ability to grade essays that each have their own unique voice.

I’m fairly sure they’re looking for a 5 paragraph essay (Beginning, 3 Supporting Paragraphs, and Conclusion). I don’t think you get anything extra for having your own voice.

Your essay will be posted on CB in a few days. Post in on here, and quite a few people will be around to offer you a less-hypothetical critique.
