So, who's done it?
I refuse to believe that I'm the only one haha. I've made up friends and anecdotes for examples. Once, when I couldn't remember the details of whom Thomas Jefferson's embargo affected, I made them up.
I mean, the scorers don't fact check, so I figure as along as it's well written, everything's kosher ;)
Any other master fabricators out there?

my essay was full of lies (got a 10, international), but I gave “personal examples”, so no one can actually know if theyre true or not. Although I would be hesitant to BS when it comes to common historical facts.

ah but first you have to tell us what score you got so we can either laugh at you, or laugh with you.

^ definitely, should have said so myself.

Niece worked with an SAT tutor who helped her develop a one-size-fits-all essay with impressive vocal in the first and last paragraphs. She, English teacher dad and tutor all agreed it was gibberish. She got a 10, a huge increase over her previous non-tutor assisted score.

I think of myself as a good writer, and I worked pretty hard on mine, but I only got a 9/12. Any BS, if existent, was not intentional.

I BS’d statistics and quotes on the ACT essay and got a 9. Which isn’t too bead because the essay was honestly terrible compared to what I normally write. I didn’t have an opinion on the prompt and panicked, so I think those fake facts helped me:)

Hahahaha, I BS’d sooo much on my SAT essay. I said that I was horrible at chemistry and even made up the name of a tutor that had helped me, in order to show the benefit of a single action. I also made up the name of the first solver of a millennium math problem because I couldn’t remember it on test day. I think I even BS’d a couple of dates and scientific formulas. I just started to have a lot of fun. Only a 9/12 for me, giving me a 720 on writing, but whatever. It was a lot more fun that way. So no, you are definitely not the only one.

Oh, and on my ACT essay I made up a bunch of programs that I had participated in my school district and got a 10.

I have a theory that essay quality doesn’t affect Writing score, or at least only in that a score above a certain level qualifies as essentially perfect. I only got a 9/12 on my essay but a 780 on the section at large.

oh come on you guys. I don’t see any “master fabricators” here.

where’s the guy who gets a 12 with an example of a historical, fictitious civil rights leader?

I completely changed the plot of Beowulf to fit the prompt-got an 11 :D

I didn’t even finish my essay(SAT I, international student), I wrote it in 8 minutes. I panicked because I hadn’t practiced how to write an essay. Got a 10.

Made up facts about the 1929 depression. Couldn’t remember who the president was at time haha - the one who brought the US back to life. I was sure it was a Roosevelt but I couldn’t put a finger on it. I reasoned that because Teddy Roosevelt was the badass one who hunted, he had to have been from the 1800s. Franklin Delano it had to be.

I did not even check after the exam who it was.

^ Herbert Hoover. It was Herbert Hoover.

I’ll be taking the SAT for the first time a month from now and may completely BS a few quotes, depending on how desperate I get with the prompt.

What would you guys consider a good essay score? 10?

I BSed all of my examples for the December SAT this year. I got a 9. However, I genuinely think I could have gotten a 10 if my third example wasn’t so bad and I managed my time better. My handwriting also sucked toward the end.

Really want a 11+ this time around, though. .-. What’s the secret.

Lol my essay scores ranged from 9-12. Really hoping for a 12 the last time I take the SAT.
In my opinion, literary and historical examples are the best. Personal stories are fine too, but I feel that if you show some general knowledge of the world/literature/politics, it helps your score a bit
The one where I fudged details was about barriers, and I used Jefferson’s embargo and North Korea as examples
I didn’t totally fabricate the examples, because it’s history, and the scorer might have known it. But I kinda exaggerated on the effect that it had on the middle class :P
