For those who scored high on the SAT Essay: What are some examples (literature/history) that you commonly use for any topic on the SAT Essay? I've made a list of examples that I use often for the Essay, but there are times where my examples cannot relate at ALL to the topic that is being described.

I sure could use the help. Thank you so much.

The prompt was is knowledge a burden-
I somewhat changed it to Knowledge may be a burden but it is far less than the cost of ignorance-
Holocaust- Jews were caught unaware of Hitler's plan to kill him until too late- Cost of ignorance was millions of death while burden of knowledge would've been taking action

War in Iraq- US citizens ignorant of the fact that Iraw did not have WMD- cost of ignorance= death

For the May SAT, my topic was about materialism. I somehow managed to get an 11.

I used Great Gatsby.
I talked about how all of the textile industries are going overseas for materialistic reasons.
And then I made up a personal experience.

Great Gatsby, personal experience (pressure from father to go into business rather than biochem for the money; financial pressures corrupted his once pure desire to "just want me to be happy")

12!

For both ACT and SAT, I wrote two longer, more developed body paragraphs that really addressed the topic. I think that this works better (12 both times).

haha Great Gatsby, American Dream concept (it was a lil stretch here), sumthin about social darwinism...false image of the concept of materialism...
