Hello everyone. Today I did my first SAT practice test and, to my dismay, found out that there is no way for anyone to grade my essay. If anyone would like to grade, or at least read through this essay I wrote for practice, I would greatly appreciate it! I realize it isn't very good, but I copied it how I wrote it, so please be critical about it ;)

I think that an individual cannot have an impact on the course of history. History changes dramatically when a system is abolished and a new one comes in it's place, or when a revoution strikes, making an all-encompassing change in everybody's daily lives. One person only can't do this. It requires a group of people, at least, that share a common goal or sometimes a common enemy, to change history dramatically. If we take a look at history, this group of people was always made up of working class men and women. it is never the individual that makes the difference. But still, heroes sprout from history books. i believe this is so because people need a beacon they will follow in hard times. This person, that most of the group has never even seen, symbolizes the ideal for which to strive. Heroes are brave, strong, wise, understanding... every personality trait that is praised at a certain time. So if we look at heroes from the past, in their appearance, speeches, actions we can see what was the cause of the sudden change of events. There are numerous examples of this, from Cezar to Nweton. In the Roman Empire, the 'populus' - the common folk were in an awful financial situation. Cezar got the favor of the common folk on his side, and with their constant support ruled the Roman Empire. The same is applicable to science. In the 16th century, when the scientific community started crystalizing their ideas in mathematical formulas, one of them sprang out - Newton! But Newton's discovery would not have been possible without the work of numerous other scientists before him.
To conclude, I think that great people, or heroes, do not have the power to impact the course of history greatly, alone. It is a group of people with the same goal that changes something. Heroes are only ideals the group "made" to back up something.
