SAT essay lenth?

How long are the essays you write on the SAT supposed to be? I recently subscribed to the online college board SAT course and have been writing practice essays. You only get 25 minutes to write them so I was wondering are the essays to be one paragraph essays or like five paragraph essays?

EDIT: Wow I spelled length wrong lol

It doesn’t specifically have to be five paragraphs, but it should definitely have an introduction, specific examples (at least two body paragraphs with concrete descriptions/development), and a conclusion. ALWAYS conclude. You might want to aim for four because of time (intro, two body paragraphs, conclusion) and then work up to writing three examples in.

Good luck!

^ Agree with Skittle.

You might want to read a few 6 essays to see examples of what you’re aiming for. :)

Thanks for the help!

Ace,

Most essays seem to be 3-4 paragraphs, but I don’t think the number of paragraphs is as important as how they are structured and what you convey.

According to the Collegeboard.com you need: (i) outstanding critical thinking and to effectively and insightfully develop a point of view; (ii) clear and appropriate examples; (iii) to demonstrate coherence and smooth progression of ideas; and (iv) good use of language.

Also, I think it goes without saying that grammar and spelling should be sound. You can see some examples at the bottom of this link: [SAT The Essay](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools)

Hope this helps

Filling both pages is viewed favorably. I only use three or four paragraphs in my essays with one highly-elaborated example. Focus and coherence in the essay is very important. Most students are not proficient at transitioning between examples and graders often take a point off for this.
