I've been to so many different SAT tutors, and they all tell me one thing on the SAT essay: DO NOT USE PERSONAL EXAMPLES. So I have my list of famous people in history that could possibly relate to an essay, and every time I take the SAT, i get around an 8 or a 9.

Meanwhile, recently, my friend took the SAT for the first time with no training. she used a personal example for her essay, ONE example, not even the two that they say to do. she wrote about her horse. and she gets a 12.

my question: is it REALLY bad to write about personal examples? because clearly i dont think it is... and it's not like she's such a brilliant writer either so im just confused. why do these SAT people tell you not to use personal examples?
