SAT Essay Score?

Hey guys!! I have an essay here and I would like to know how many out of 12 or out of 6 would you give it. Thank you!

The majority is not always right due to the fact that rarely do people challenge the majority, making it accepted but not necessarily correct. In literature, an example would be George Orwell's 'Animal Farm' where everybody agrees with Napoleon even when he is without integrity. History also proves that the majority can be wrong, like Hitler's Nazi Germany. Finally, in the fields of science, Einstein proved to everyone that the speed of light is always constant.

Animal Farm depicts the main antagonist, Napolean, as the former dictator of Russia, Stalin. Only through the heavy usage of propaganda and lies did Napolean win the favor of the majority of animals in Animal Farm. Cunningly, Napolean oppresses the minority like Snowball by using them as scapegoats or even killing them. Without the right to a freedom of speech, everyone will side with the majority in order to feel that they are right and to save their own skin. This exemplifies that the majority could be wrong due to suppression or having no choice. Orwell wrote this novel in order to show its readers how Stalin behaved during his reign over the USSR, and it also shows that the majority can be fooled into thinking that what they are doing is 'correct'.

In addition to Animal Farm, a real life example of the usage of oppression to gain political power and support of the majority is Hitler. Adolf Hitler was the dictator of Nazi Germany before and during World War II (1930's ~ 1945). His great charismatic proficiency meant that he could easily persuade the average civilians of Germany to follow his orders. His exploitation of German anger and his usage of scapegoats convinced the majority to support him, thinking that their decision is correct. Eventually, with his rise to power, Hitler could use his SS (Secret Police, Gestapo etc.) to suppress any negative thoughts against Hitler. This eradicated any form of hatred thinking towards Hitler and through this did he convince that Germany and himself were correct.

Last but not least, paradigm shifts can occur whenever, just like when Galileo told the world that the Earth orbited around the sun or when Einstein presented his theory of relativity. Through these minorities did the thinking of the majorities change proving that the majority's thinking is not guaranteed to be absolute.

Throughout the course of human history, it is clearly shown that, indeed, the majority can be wrong at times as much as they hate to admit it. People are afraid to embarrass themselves and admit they are wrong; they feel safer with a larger group. However, this is not always the right decision. The majority can definitely be wrong sometimes.

P.S. If any of you are SAT essay graders, please let me know!

Thank you for your time :D

I’ll give it a 9

Thank you so much!! Do you have any suggestions as to how i could improve my essay? :D

It will most likely score 8-10. I’d like to see stronger examples, and when I say stronger, I mean examples that you do not see every essay you read.

P.S. I am high school student, but only ever score 8-9 on AP essays and always 12 on SAT essays and I grade many of my peers essays and tutor them for it. So, I am no “SAT essay reader” ; so only take my comment lightly.

I would give it about a 9

Keep animal farm and Hitler and elaborate on them Remove the weak 3rd example about Galileo and Einstein.

Do that and I think it’ll score a 11.

Right now I still think its pretty good tbh. 10?

I would give it about a 9

If you guys don’t mind, can you please grade my essay and give comments, too? Thank you so much!

The prompt was “Is creativity needed more than ever in the world today?”

Numerous ingredients are essential for the recipe of future success in our society and planet. Among these, the easily most essential quality needed in the status quo is an explosion of creativity. Most dictionaries explain that creativity is the “ability to reason abstractly.” With that said, it is so much more than that. It is not a stretch to claim that creativity is the defining characteristic of intelligence that can make or break success. Without question, creativity is vital now more than ever in the world because it allows people to break down the constructs of routine society while also promising massive technological breakthroughs.

In his classic novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ken Kesey elucidates how creativity is necessary to fight the restrictions society and the world enforce. Quite simply. he argues through the text that creativity is nothing less than freedom. In the novel, the protagonist McMurphy gets arrested for a small crime and chooses to serve time in a mental asylum rather than a traditional penitentiary. He fails to anticipate that this asylum is run by a power-hungry totalitarian dictator named Nurse Ratched who has cleverly tapped the patients on the ward and removed all their freedom. McMurphy’s massive creative abilities allow him to open up new avenues for the patients to rebel and fight for increased freedom. For example, McMurphy both plans a carnival and a fishing trip to achieve this paradigm shift for how the ward is run. Through both of these creative avenues, McMurphy allows the men to have fun and taste freedom, ultimately leading to the demise of the dictatorship of the nurse. As is clear, it was only through McMurphy’s creativity that the micro-society of the ward was revolutionized and in the same way, creativity is needed in order to fix the fundamental issues with out society.

In addition, Mark Zuckerberg’s creation of Facebook is brilliant proof that creativity is of the highest necessity to cause technological advance. Mark Zuckerberg is a true genius in countless aspects. Importantly, his massive creativity led him to explore revolutionary new ways to connect people on the internet. Years of insight and “messing around” with computer programs in undiscovered realms led him to the idea of creating a social network. In the late 2000s, all this creative exploration came together with the launch of Facebook the revolutionary website that connects individuals across the globe. Indeed, his creativity led to this leap in technology and our world needs creativity to further future technological innovations.

When examining the facets of our world that need to be reinvigorated, creativity is an obviously one. Through breaking down the constructs of traditional society and through the advancement of technology like with Facebook, the importance of creativity is more blatantly clear that is ever has been.

Score my essay too! Did it under timed conditions, thank you!

Are many leaders necessary for a group to function effectively?

Leadership is a vital component of any system in place. Whether it is a group assignment in school, a community service project, a business venture, or even a political body, there is a definite need for leadership in order for effective operation of the group. However, the number of leaders needed to lead a group often depends on the size of the group, the strong-held opinions of the leader, as well as communication skills within the group. Hence, it is not necessary for multiple leaders to be leading a group to success.

The size of the group in action is usually a deciding factor of whether many leaders are required. More often, bigger groups require more leaders as tasks are divided up for better management and each division would need a leader to provide a particular direction and goal to its members. This explains why political bodies are split up into various ministries and each headed by a minister. Furthermore, the bigger the group, the greater the number of perspectives to be taken into consideration. In such cases, having more leaders that each represent different points of view can help to consolidate differing views and lead the group in a more inclusive manner. However, as opposed to a larger group, small groups can be more effective with having only one leader, since inefficiencies and slow progress will result otherwise.

The ideals and opinions of the leader himself can also determine the group dynamics, which will affect the performance of the group. When leaders have ideals that compliment each other and reinforce the end goal of the group, having more leaders can be very productive. Furthermore, the presence of many leaders in this case will enable a strong support system, where work is evenly distributed amongst the leaders. However, having leaders with opposing views within a group can be highly destructive and result in ‘competitive leadership’. When leaders are merely fighting for power and self affirmation, the leadership will be skewed towards satisfying personal pride and not for the common good. As such, resulting in corruption which is a trend seen in many failed governments.

Lastly, the effective functioning of a group should not solely rely on the strength of leadership, but the entire community spirit of the group. A strong bond between team members can bring joy and positivity to the work environment and create a healthier group dynamic. For example, companies such as Apple have created workspaces that incorporate focus discussions, where employees voice their opinions and contribute to the discussion on an equal level. Giving group members the sense of empowerment to contribute is also a key factor to effective functioning.

@crystalgerl You do not really use examples to back up what you are saying and your thesis is weak. With that said, it is well-written so I would probably guess it would get a 3/4. Grade mine please!
