Q Cards: A Vocabulary Flash Card System for the SAT

i use the sparknotes 1000 vocab card, which I agree is a lot easier than the barrons 3500 word list, but still covers a lot of range.

a friend of mine actually got a 780 on cr from just the sparknotes vocab

I used the Barrons flash cards from the back of one of their SAT books.

Think about sitting down and making flash cards for 3500 words. I’ve actually thought about it, and it blew my mind.

Even 1000 is a bit too much for me. I just read over the list while covering the definitions and see if I know the words.

Of the 3000+ words that you should know for the SAT, you (probably) already know a big chunk. Making your own flashcards is always a good idea. You can have your system of different colors, sizes etc for different kinds of words. I first just learned the words in alphabetical order. Then I wrote them out with their meanings and used them in a sentence in a diary (which, by the time I took the SAT, looked like a dictionary). Later I grouped the words that are synonymous or having similar meanings into bubbles. Finally, I made separate flashcards for words that have similar sounds/spellings but have different meanings. OK, this is slightly mad…but I only did it because I have a horrendous memory and even worse math skills. So getting a good CR was very important for me. I ended up with a 760
which is good for me! All the best with your words…:D
