Hey everyone.
I'm currently a junior. I took the June SAT as my first sitting, scored a 2340 with mild prep, and was pretty happy. As PSAT time rolled around, I didn't think I needed to study - so the night before I took the CB practice test, and that was it.
I didn't expect a 240, of course. But I did expect a score that was somewhat comparable to my SAT score. After all, this is the /practice/ SAT - it would be easier than the real thing, right?
I scored a 221, only a /five point/ increase from the year before. My math score was a 70, down from a 73 last year, and my writing score a 71, down two points, whereas on the SAT they'd been a 750 and a 790.
I was thinking about retaking the SAT, but now I'm really unsure.
So the question is:
Was my SAT score just a fluke?

Congrats on your score, but don't assume too quickly that your skills were too different than your SAT results.

One thing to consider is that the curve on your PSAT may have been more difficult, another would be that the PSAT doesn't even include an essay.

Work on your college applications now :)

no your SAT scores are great, there's no need to spend another saturday and another thirty bucks to sign up. Plus, if your SAT score was a fluke, why would you risk retaking it and scoring lower? (ever hear of regression to the mean?) I'm sure it was no fluke, you can't pull those off on the SAT's that often, so congratulations and good luck next year.

If you retake a 2340, chances are you will go down. I tried it and just ended up cancelling because I knew I did worse.

Don't do it!

It actually doesn't matter if it is a fluke. They take your highest scores. Congratulations!

Yeah who cares even if it was, which it probably wasn't. 2340 is VERY good and you don't need to retake it AT ALL.

Why would you want to retake it? Goodness. That's an awesome score.

Retake a 2340? What would be the point? To prove you were lucky? Why would you want to do that?

Why would you complain about a 221, which is an improvement over your last score?

Just... Sit and think for a little bit.

personally...i think the psat is much harder to score well on. I got a 200 PSAT and a 2240 SAT. So no, it probably wasn't a fluke.

I hope that's true, my psat was a 220 and I'm planning to take the March SAT ^_^

Yeah, my PSAT was lower than my SAT as well..
But last year it was higher than my SAT..
so who knows!

i really don't think you should retake your SAT, 2340, as mentioned before, is a great score. Also i don't think it's a fluke only because PSAT is a shorter test and has a harsher curve in comparison with the SAT, and I know i scored higher on the SAT than PSAT.

There's no real qualitative difference between 2300 and 2400. At that point, you've met the SAT criterion for everywhere and their acceptance decisions will be based on other factors.

Definitely retake it- and don't stop until you get a perfect score.

Don't even stop at a perfect score. What if the colleges think that the perfect score was a fluke. You have to get a 2400 at LEAST twice for it to be reasonable. Who cares if you can do something if you can't repeat it.
