Hi! I'd like to ask you about your ways of preparation for the SAT. I'm an international and I have about 5 month before the test date. My main problem is Critical Reading, particularly words, I think I should learn about 6000-8000 new words in 5 month, meanwhile I'm preparing for other sections and 3 subject tests. So any advice here? How did you prepare for the SAT?

Critical Reading is the hardest section to change. Your only way to prepare for it is to go over vocab, and taking a few practice tests. You’re a reader because of everything you’ve read throughout your life, and no amount of short-term practice will change that. That said, you should look at some practice Critical Reading questions and see what kinds of things they test. For example, if you see question’s about the author’s purpose or tone, and you have no diea what that means, you should look it up.

For Math, try to find the typical types of problems you’ll encounter by looking at practice tests. They’ll always have certain types of problems (like about 1 “weird equation” or “weird symbol” problem per test) that you can figure out how to do by only looking at a few examples.

For Writing, try studying grammar - especially subject-verb agreement. That’s probably the topic that international students struggle with the most, and that gets quite a bit of coverage on the test. Also, look for hints on writing the SAT essay and make sure you know how it’s going to be scored.

Thank you!
I don’t seem to have problems with Math and I was surprised that my Writing was higher than I expected, but I failed Critical Reading, so I’ll try your suggestion to look up things which I don’t get.
