SAT I and II Questions

I'm studying my *** off for the SAT I, and I just decided I'm going to take the SAT II U.S. History, World History, and Literature tests. How hard are these tests in comparison to others?

QUESTION: For Harvard EA, will I have time to take both the SAT II's and re-take the SAT I before it's too late? Second, how much studying do the SAT II's require to get the 750+ scores? From what I hear, it's very easy to get 750+'s with a little bit of studying. What do you guys say?

November 15 is the EA deadline for Harvard, right?
November 5 is a SAT II/SAT I date
October 8 is a SAT II/SAT I date
You get your scores approximately 16 days after testing.
So for the October test, you'd get your scores around Oct 24.
For the November test, around December 1

You cannot retake your SAT IIs before the Harvard EA deadline, you'll only have 1 shot before the deadline. BUT you can mail your scores if you do substantially better. If I were you, I'd make sure you do well the first time. It's gonna be rough man, 4 tests in 1 day. 1 4 hr test, and then 3 1 hour tests...oh man, that's like 7 hours of testing in 1 day.

Maybe you should do some sat IIs on the November date, and when they send you a notice that part of your application is missing, maybe you can send them the rest of the scores by December 1st, about 1/2 a month after the deadline. But that looks bad, cuz it makes you looks sloppy when you forget stuff. So ... your best bet would be to take them all in October, all on 1 day to catch the deadline ... ouch good luck man.

First off, I wouldn't say 750+ is easy. Most kids on CC won't admit it, but 750+ is actually harder than it seems.

I got a 780 on the SATII Biology, but that's only because I read the entire textbook during the week before the exam. A little luck also helped. I got an 800 on the Chemistry, only because the teacher spent a month specifically preparing us for the exam. I wouldn't really call this "a little bit" of studying.

@sarorah

you can't take 4 test at one day...
It is 3 SAT II's or 1 SAT I

Wow this is really not looking good...Wow.

YOu might want to check on the dates they offer testing for world history. Last year my friend tried to take it but it was only offered in december so he couldn't take it. Also you can't take SAT1 and SAT2 the same day. However there is one thing you could do. Since SAT2 can not be replaced by anything else, take it. But instead of SAT1 take ACT. Then you could take all the required tests by october.

I checked world history is only available in december take some math. I recommend math 2c. It's required to take one math SAT2. Actually that was for 2004, but I'm convinced that they only offer it twice every year; one in june and the other in december

yeah, you need to take a math.

You might also want to check with Harvard. I know that MIT EA is due around Nov 1, but they take Nov test scores.

Well, I do have an SAT I score at present, but it is not Harvard level...

MATH: 710
CR: 700 (probably my biggest fear is this score being so low)

WRITING: 590

The writing I deserve because I only did one, poorly simulated essay and I missed almost 10 on the MC. Also, from what I hear the Ivies aren't caring too much about writing anyway.

QUESTION: Does it matter if I take a SAT II math 1 or 2? In other words, is score everything or do they also look at the level of math you took as well as the score? BTW, I appreciate the responses you guys have graciously given me.

Probably your best bet is the IIC. I believe there are schools out there that won't even take the IC.

I suggest 2c 100%. 1c is easy but hard to get a good score. 2c is a definite 750+ while 1c may get you something in the 600s if you make mistakes.

most colleges will favor math 2c(caltech does not accept 1c)
if you're strong in math, you should take 2c becuase it has a better curve.

Yeah take the 2c, the curve is more generous and most colleges like to see 2c as opposed to 1c. imiracle has the best plan since you can't take all of those SATs in 1 day, to take the ACT and to take 3 SAT IIs.

BUT...the ACT is offered on Sep 24 in certain states only and then on Oct 22...but I believe it takes 2.5 weeks to see your score online. So if you took it on Oct 22, you'd see your score around Nov 18. You should take it in Sept, and if the test isn't offered in your state, travel to the closest state to take it. Here's from actstudent.org:
* The September 24, 2005, test date is only available in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington
You'd get your september ACT test results around October 12, and you'll probably get your SAT II scores around October 24, all before the deadline.

I made a mistake for the Nov SAT date, if you're taking it on the 5th of Nov, then you can probably get your scores on the 21st, and that's not very late from the deadline.

So..in summary:

September 24: ACT
October 8: SAT IIs
October 12: ACT Results
October 22: 2nd chance to take ACT
October 24: SAT II Results
November 5: 2nd chance to take SAT IIs
November 9: ACT Retake Results
November 15: Harvard EA deadline
November 21: SAT IIs Retake Results

Remember these are all estimates

You could always just drive to a state that offers the ACT in September. Harvard's website says that the November date will work for early action: <a href="http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/prospective/applying/early_action/checklist/%5B/url%5D">http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/prospective/applying/early_action/checklist/</a>
I think I've heard Harvard will consider the writing. Keep in mind too, Harvard also is one of the few schools requiring 3 SAT IIs, even with the new SAT I.

Wait a minute...

"September 24: ACT
October 8: SAT IIs
October 12: ACT Results
October 22: 2nd chance to take ACT
October 24: SAT II Results
November 5: 2nd chance to take SAT IIs
November 9: ACT Retake Results
November 15: Harvard EA deadline
November 21: SAT IIs Retake Results"

Octobor 8 = a chance to take my SAT II's

Then..

Nov 5th = a second chance on my SAT I to bring my scores up a lot.

...I could then have my SAT I scores sent to Harvard (thus meaning they would see them before I would...but I would be assured that my scores would be higher anyway).

That means I'm still safe..right? Where are you getting these new SAT dates? I made a cursory glance at some google results, but I was unsuccessful at finding the dates myself.

<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees/calenfees2.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/calenfees/calenfees2.html</a></p>

<a href="http://www.actstudent.org/regist/nextdates.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.actstudent.org/regist/nextdates.html</a></p>

Yeah you can do that, send your scores to Harvard before you see them, they should be better. Or you can see your scores first and then mail them another updated score report. And according to Dmct, the November dates will work for Harvard EA. So you have a chance at retaking! Good luck!
