SAT II - Are they really essential?

Okay y’all- for ivy leagues/ very competitive schools, are SAT II subject tests imperative for a chance at admission( even though the schools say they are recommended) ?

I’m going to be a senior and plan on applying for competitive schools, yet I haven’t taken a single SAT II yet, am I screwed? Should I take them, (which would be a lot of work in a short period of time)?

BTW I’ve taken the ACT w/ writing…

If you look at school’s common data set’s they’ll show you how much they emphasize the SAT II in a table. They are a lot more things that get considered than the SAT II. If you’re lacking in ACT, GPA, essays, EC’s, do something abut those instead.

Some schools like Cornell just require you to take SAT Subject Tests. It depends on the college if they will allow you to take the ACT instead of the subject tests. If you do have to take the subject tests, be sure to send whether the specific college specifies which subjects to take. Some schools require a math, Science, and humanities exam, for example.

Look at the requirements of any school you are considering applying to (can usually be found in the admission section of the school website) and your answer will become clear.

Some of the selective schools require them, which makes them essential. Other selective schools recommend them, which makes them essential. Other selective schools consider them, which does not make them essential, but potentially helpful. Other selective schools are almost or compeltely indifferent to them, which may make them wasteful. You cannot group all competitive schools together.
