<p>Should my D take the SAT II Chem a week prior to the AP Exam or should she take it four weeks after the exam? Her teacher plans to finish the course a month before the AP exam so he could review the material with the students. She will take Chem and Math II tests. It's logical for her to take them this year since she's taking AP Chem and Pre-Calc, I am just not sure about the timing, May vs. June. I am thinking she needs to finish the Chem test so she could review math for about a month. I don't know if reviewing for the AP is sufficient for the SAT II. Never took one of these myself. <p>If she is ready for the AP, she is ready for the SAT II. If she is going to sit for the SAT II in June anyway (take the math SAT II), then it is ok to wait until then. I doubt she will forget much. If she isn’t going to sit for another SAT II test, then take it before.</p>
<p>When is she taking the SAT? June would be the best time for that. So, I would advise taking the SAT II in May, and the SAT in June.</p>

<p>My S took the Chem SATII during the fall after Honors Chem, a year before AP Chem. (He was supposed to take it in the spring, but sports intervened.) During the spring, his teacher spent some time after school with those who wished to take the SATII, going over some material that he said might appear on the SATII that wasn’t covered in Honors Chem.</p>
<p>I think it would be worth either asking the teacher about it–it sounds like this teacher is on the ball about standardized tests–and running through a chem SATII. AP courses do not necessarily cover what’s on the SATII.</p>
<p>OperaDad, why do you say that June is the best time for the SATI? I’d think that it would be better to take the SATI in May, and wait until the courses are farther along to take the SATIIs.</p>

<p>Because the math and english classes will be farther along when you take the SAT.</p>
<p>In terms of college admissions, an extra 10 or more points on the SAT is much more valuable than an extra 10 or more points on a SAT II test. I get the impression that SAT II is an afterthought to validate the SAT, ACT, and transcript. It is a high SAT score that will get the child noticed so that the SAT II has any meaning.</p>
<p>I would rather my child score 800 on the SAT math and 750 on SAT II math than 750 on SAT math and 800 on SAT II math.</p>
<p>Last year our D took the SATIIs in May (AP US, Math II), the SAT in June. Since some of the APs are scheduled early in May, she wanted to “peak” at the same time. Moreover, our teachers pretty much wind up the year with the AP test. You can check the AP schedule, and find out from the teacher when they will be through with the material; that helped D decide to go ahead and do the SATIIS. She didn’t want to have to do any study/review for them after APs were done.</p>
