I was wondering if it is possible to do well (650+) on the SAT II Biology after just one year of Honors Biology. I'm going to be a sophomore and am taking it in October. I've already purchased the Princeton & Kaplan review books, but I know that I'm not going to study them religiously. Also, I took a test (E) in the Princeton Review book and got a 570 about two weeks ago.

If you are comfortable with it then go for it. I took one year of Honors Bio and got a 780 but only after a LOT of studying!

Ya, I took one year of Honors Bio and got a 740. It's not that difficult

Thanks! Just wondering, how much did you study for it and with what prep book(s)?

The test is designed to be taken after one year of biology, so if you do well in the class, you should have no problem.

I am taking the bio sat 2 in either oct or nov, i was wondering how much, and in debth the test goes into respiration and mitosis/meisos.

ex, would the test say "what are the outcomes of glycosis", and give choices of like nadh,2atp,pryuvate etc? Or would they ask something easier? Also, if we have to memorize the products of each step of respiration?

Anyone who would tell me about difficulty of tests or examples would be greatly appreciated.

dont worry about it dude....

im in like the EXACT same situation. I took PreAP Bio last year in 9th grade and am planing to take it also in October(14?).

Some people were telling me that i should take AP bio before I take it but i dont want all my tests (PSAT, SAT, SATII,APs) to be concentrated inmy junior and senior years. SO im taking the SATII bio this year to get it out of the way.

I bought the Barrons SATII BIO book and just finished reading through it lie 2hrs ago.lol. Then i took one the sample test and just scored a 700.. thats kinda low for my expectations (790+) but its ok considering that i only used the Barrons(im getting the PR and Kaplan.) for studying.

I study about 30-1hr per night...i think if you do that for about a month, you should do plenty well!!!!!

Good luck

vhoidz im doing the same plan as you

may we both succeed

I took regular ol' biology in 9th grade. I took the Biology SATII test in October of 12th grade. I got a 720 as I recall.

The hardest thing was that I hadn't seen biology in three years when I took the SAT II Bio test.

I don't remember what books I used, but I do recall I studied quite a lot for it the summer before 12th grade. Not obsessively. Actually, I remember that I used the Barron's review books for the New York State Biology Regents Exam. I also think I used the Barrons Biology SATII book.

The test isn't that hard.

Good luck,

Greg

Greg you must be good in bio then

ur fine as long as u study....i took bio freshman yr and didnt take the Bio sat II until this past june of my jr yr (needless to say, i forgot most of the stuff). I used the same 2 books u have (PR and Kaplan) and i managed a 720. Oh and if you got a 570 on a PR test and want a 650+, i suggest considering dropping your plan of not studying the prep books "religiously"
good luck!

i am planning on doing the same thing. i am using the kaplan book to study. Man this thing is more intense than my textbook

I have Kaplan. I read the book in 1.5 weeks. I took my first practice test on saturday, I got a 720. I got owned on the diagnostic test though, I only got a 640. I think w/ some more review of the stuff I missed (systems of arthropods, annelids, etc and respiration/photosynthesis showed up a lot) I can get 780+

Priceless, did you take AP Bio or just a regular bio course?

I feel that there's a lot to know for SAT II Biology...like all of the body systems and specific phylums. I've never learned any of them (except for in elementary school), so that is going to be pretty challenging.

hey guys

i suggest that we use at least 2 or three different books to study for it...

i heard people say that barrons is more broad and kaplan is more precise...
so im using both to study!(plus sparknotes and PR).

like i said, after reading the barrons, i took a practice test and scored a 700 on it. I think that on the next practice test i can get at least a 750...

my goal is 800!!
good luck to all of us...

i suggest reading barron's last as it will be better understood after you read kaplan and PR

i took bio h in freshman year, and skimmed through the mcgraw hill book and the kaplan book (and when i say skimmed, i mean maybe half an hour total not counting practice tests) and took the practice tests.... I got 720 on the Kaplan ones and a 680 on the McGraw Hill ones (!!--- wait i can't remember if that was the practice tests or the diagnostic on Kaplan...) but I got a 760 on the real Sat II (I was actually expecting higher because the test seemed so easy). The test isn't that hard, there's a couple of details, but a year of biology should prepare you for it.

can someone post the curve for the bio e and bio m tests from the collegeboard real SAT II book?

09xoxo are you talking about the mcgraw hill book - schaum's?

i'm pretty sure it's just the mcgraw-hill published SAT ii Biology prep book.. it claims 4 full tests on the front but really is only 2 each with a e section and an m section...

i think the curve is posted for both... search under this forumn for calculate your score or something... someone was kind enough to type up most of it... i think the thread started in may or june this yr....
