My little brother is a freshman who is enrolled in Biology Honors this year. He is thinking about taking the SAT II Biology in June. He's maintaining a high A and consistently sets the curve.

Thing is, he's also going to take AP Bio in his junior year but by then, he'll have to worry and study for all of his other testing.

Is the SAT II Biology hard and is it worth it to take it early?

Sure, why not- if you're brother thinks he's ready. I didn't find SAT II to be that hard, IMO, compared to the AP test. It's pretty much general bio questions, not really into depth as the AP, but others have found the SAT version harder for some reason.

I took it after taking AP bio my sophomore year, so I never had an honors bio class before that, and I was pretty comfortable with the questions. Scored 800.

this post has been on 3 ivy league boards now. Something tell me your asking this for yourself and not your brother, why not just come straight out and say it's you.

But anyways, yea, do it now as Tami said that it's not as in depth as the AP. It shouldn't be a problem at all then.

Definitely have your brother take in now because later on, he will be overwhelmed with other tests. Personally, I think it's best to get over with the SAT IIs as soon as possible. I took the bio SAT II my freshman year after regular bio and did really well.

I also took bio as a freshman - scored 710. Bio is an easier SAT II, so I would advise your brother get a Barrons book, study, take practices, and get it over with!

harvard_polo: 740, It was the highest out of all the freshmen that took it from my school. One could view it as an okay score or a great one, but I was happy with it.

Biology by Kenneth R. Miller and Joseph Levine, but I believe I obtained my score from studying the Barron's book. I thought that was the best SAT II book for bio. The scores that I got on the practice tests were very close to my actual score. Also, I had a really good teacher.

I took Honors Bio in 9th grade, and decided to take the SATII (I did the E), but this was back in the day of Score Choice. The E was incredibly easier than the M, but if your brother is good at memorizing all of the molecular chains and formulas than knowing about ecosystems and such, he should take the M. I got a 750, so I decided not to take AP bio the following year, as many of my classmates did. Now this year, as a senior, I'm doubling up on AP sciences by taking Bio and Physics (B). This way, I got to take honors regents levels of Chem sophomore year, and physics junior year. Hope this helps.

I took ecology because I had just finished the ecology section in class and that was what my teacher recommended. I did get a chance to do almost all of the molecular questions without marking them, just to see what they were like and I thought they were easier. I even asked my classmates who had taken it too and they all thought molecular was a whole lot easier. Maybe it was just my class. It depends on what your teacher focused on in class. Good luck.

SAT II- Bio is pretty easy. I didnt do the hw for 3 months in my AP bio class and just went through a PR sat II review and I got a 790... missed one too many for an 800.. oh well.

Bio was definitly an easier II, pick E or M just on what your class focused on. I took it after i had taken AP Bio and AP Chem and did really well, it was like a super easy AP, i could have taken it after advanced instead of waiting until i took it as AP
