Sat II Chem

I'm taking the SATII CHEM on June 4th and I'm scared to death. My chem honors class at school isn't that great cuz of my bad chem teacher so i'm studying from PR and Barron's and have REA practice tests....but time is running out!!!!! Is the test hard? How did you guys study? Words of encouragement are welcomed too!!! lol

man, I am in the same situation as you. Im so freaking scared lol. Studying from Barrons and Sparknotes. PM me and we can help get over this..........

do practice tests and see how you do!

then get scared if it's bad.

then study like a mofo!

oh that makes me feel all the much better....

I am taking ap chem but have stopped doing anything related since the ap exam. I hope it stays in my brain. I just took the practice test in the Real SAT IIs book, I barely got an 800 (2nd to last cutoff). It didn't seem that bad, the only thing was at the beginning they had a diagram of reactions and I got almost all of those wrong. It's hard to explain, but I think it was questions 5-10, so if you have the book take a look. I hope that kinda stuff isn't on the test. The other thing that threw me was the length of the test, I didn't have time for 2 of the questions. I would take lots of practice tests so you can get the timing done.
Which would you take first, Math IIC, or Chem? I'm leaning towards Math because I feel I am more prone to make stupid mistakes there.

I took Chem then Math IIC . . . took them both in May . . . mainly because I was stronger in Math and because I did some last minute studying in Chem. I figured I'll know the same amount in math later because that's one of my fortes . . . whereas chem. (because of the horrible chem. I honors and AP Chem teachers at my school) I feel really weak in, so I took it first to make sure I was alert and recalled some of those last minute studying details . . . .

However, if you're thinking math because you're prone to making stupid mistakes there, then yeah, that'd probably be a good idea.

I'm taking regular chem class, since my school doesn't offer any AP class or honors, but I took SATII chem & math II in May. I don't know how I did it yet... waiting for the scores!!

personally, i think it's a big mistake to take the test after honors chem. i would have failed it HORRIBLY last year. take it after you take ap chem. or don't take it at all. but since you're already taking it, the barron's book has everything you will need. it's a good practice source.

I took the test a few months after completeing AP chem, I used the Baron's book and studied like crazy. I ended up getting a 700 which was much higer than expected because the Baron's book seems to grade harder than the actual exam.
Good luck, and remember that it won't kill you.

barrons all the way :D
online guides always help as well. some person posted his notes online. forgot who it was, but whoever u are, THANK YOU!
if u know ur stuff for ap chem, ull surely do well on the satii

Well, I thought I did pretty well on the SAT 2 Chemistry

but I got a 730. Damn.

Well I just got my scores in for the May test and I while I was expecting a 650 score, I got a 770. Seriously, I wanted to cancel my score when I came home but I did way better than I was positive I did.

I studied my AP Chem Barraons (barely...), my AP Chem book, and went through the entire SAT II Sparknotes. So for actual SAT II prep, I consider myself only really using the Sparknotes and on those practice tests, I was scoring 630, 620, 650, etc. I went to the test and did 'badly' compared to my practice tests. I then came here, talked about the questions I wasn't positive on, and then knowing which problems I got wrong for sure, I took an estimated guess. I thought I got a 650, but it was much much higher.

So don't stress out if you're getting low scores on the practice exams. The real curves seem a lot easier. Study and be confident. At least that's what I'm going to do now for my June SAT II US History and Math IIC exams.

800 w00t w00t

760.

i guess im happy. i mean, yea, it is a good score, but an 800 is always nice :].

I think the curve was VERY GENEROUS on this one. the practice test in the sat2 book was MUCH easier, and i got like a 790. i thot the may one was MUCH HARDER, and i was quite scared of my performance after the test. but, it turned out 760. so, probably a pretty good curve.

Um, I got a 680. But I'm no chem genius, and I put all my studying into AP chem; essentially the gist of my SAT II studying was flipping through the sparknotes the morning of the test....

i got an 800 but now i'm freaking ****ed off.

i'm *ed off b/c of a 760 on math 2c i took several months ago. i have to retake that crap in october or something. i'm so *ed off that my summer is going to be tinged by this test.

740 here . . . I'm pleasantly surprised . . . considering that I learned probably more than half of all the Chem. I know on my own . . .

If it helps any, I used the Kaplan SAT Subject Test: Chemistry 05/06 review book. I got 790 on one practice and 780 on another. I would say that it is quite realistic because I ended up with a 790 (grrrr... so close).

800 here. I was really happy.

800...and like other board...I'd use Barron's. Has everything covered, but really hard practice tests (that have wrong answers sometimes) - that will, if you study right, make the real test a breeze. Not the case for me, but I had an awesome AP Chem teacher + really studied for that class...(also, was sick day of testing, so wasted about 5+ minutes blowing my nose like every 2 minutes...sigh)

I was pleasantly surprised this morning. :)

P.S. I wouldn't bother with REA practice tests if I were you, esp. if they are old-looking (see version date on inside). I bought that for AP Stat last year, and it was a total waste cuz all the stuff was outdated. I'd chose between Princeton Review and Barron's...but I really recommend the latter.
