Is it likely that I'll get an 800 on SAT II CHEM if I only take an Honors Chem class at school (not an AP class)?

For those of you who got an 800 on CHEM SAT II, when did you take the test? After you took the normal class at school or after you took the AP CHEM class?

Also, if I'm just take the normal class at school (not AP) and study by myself for the SAT II, what books should I use that will help me get an 800?

Depends on the rigor of the chem I curriculum...

Some people who have only taken Chem I at one school know almost as much as another person who has completed AP chem at another school.

I know that if I only took chem I at my school and jumped into the SAT II in chem, I would've been toast, because the test did cover a few things that I learned in AP chem. However, if your non-AP chem program is strong enough, go for the SAT II in chem.

If you really don't want to wait until after AP chem to take the SAT IIs in chemistry, you can always take regular chemistry, and then study SAT II chemistry out of a book.

By the way, I got a 770 on the Chem SAT II... The only thing I know 100% sure is that AP chem at the very least will help, but again, I don't know if it's absolutely necessary, as the SAT IIs are supposed to only test high school material

My niece got a 530 SAT II chem at the end of Honors Chem at a strong public high school. She prepped a little- is strong in math and science (took college cacl at Ursinus as a junior). OOPS.

Why do you want to take the SAT II after honors chem eventhough you have taken AP. Are you lying? Please stop lying and admit your faults. Also stop posting hypothetical, false stats and bringing people's hopes down.

I took the Chem SAT II several years ago when I was a sophmore in high school. At the time I took it, I hadn't even finished REGULAR Chem.. so there were some topics on there that I hadn't even heard of (like electrochem and radioactive decay) because I hadn't learned it yet (and I didn't review). Nevertheless, I pulled of a 680. So imagine.. if I was that underprepared for it, and got a 680... you ought to do just fine.

I took AP chem my senior year, got a 5 on the AP test. The SAT II is a LOT easier than the AP test, but the AP test is still not as horrible as reviewing for it and the stress you are building up thinking about it.

So Pearlinthemist, you didn't review AT ALL before you took the SAT II and still got a 680? That's sooo good!!! And you used no prep books or anything? You just went ahead and took it?

I'm a bad kid.. I don't study hard.. all those review books seemed like too much work.. so yeah, basically I didn't study at all, hadn't even finished regular chem, and got a 680.

(Granted this was back in 2000 so they may have made it harder, but I doubt it)
