SAT II Chemistry May 2012

I thought Ca produced more because it forms Ca(OH)2 and K only produces KOH, meaning more H2 will form from Ca…ugh idk anymore.

^ dang it I am dumb
Ca + 2H2O -> Ca(OH)2 + H2
2K + 2H2O -> 2KOH + H2

Yeah Ca will produce more H2

Meh don’t worry. Was it a T/F or mult. choice? I can’t remember anymore…

@easonok. I believe that the same amount of H2 will be produced regardless. Here are the two reactions I got:
Ca(s) + 2H2O(l)→Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
2K(s) + 2H20(l) = 2KOH(aq) + H2(g)
Do you agree?

Wow I am gone for a few hours and there are like 5 more pages. Anyway, I put 9… I don’t remember the hydrocarbon having oxygen in it. And for the true false, I got 2CE and a TT but not correct explanation.

Yeah, but it said equal number of moles of Ca and K were present. If you look at the balanced equation you wrote, there is 1 mol of H2 for every mole of Ca and only .5 moles of H2 for every mole of K. Thus, more for Ca. Does anyone remember what the second part of this true/false was, or if it even was a true/false?

Okay I must have missed that part. The second part stated that Ca had a larger molar mass than K, and that was true.

CA/K was the TT one.

Thanks, good luck.

What was the specific phrasing of the first part again? Was it just that Ca produced more H2?

@kbolisetty23, yes it was that. Do you have any clue what a -7 would be?

Assuming no skips 760

@3lite95

A -7 is like 760-770. Still pretty good. The only score that’s really somewhat difficult is the 800.

Okay, I’m fine with that. Thank you!

If you look back a few pages, I listed the curve

@Bannedhero: I’ve just looked through the 2012 PR book, and according to it, a -5 will yield an 800 and a -8 is still good for a 780. However, I think that’s way too lenient.

HAHA If -5 was an 800, I would have gotten an 800 last year. I got -4 last year and ended up with a 790 - so I retook it this year. I hope I get a 800 this year; if not, I will be severely depressed. The only reason I retook is because I want to be a Chem major.

@3lite95

Don’t trust PR’s scoring curve. They are almost universally extra lenient in their curves.

Best of luck to you Bannnedhero

@kbolisetty23, I thought so haha

@tneduts: on scale of 1-10 (10 being hardest) i would say like around a 3
