SAT II Chemistry May 2012

can someone please explain the “9 L of water” one?

ionization energy, Isoelectronic, kinetic energy
The sun emits ultraviolet radiation
The earth emits infrared radiation
Salt and sand are separated with a funnel
Copper and iron are separated with a magnet
HCL and H2 gas are separated with that last picture of bubbling water
9 L of water to dilute HCL
SiCl4 is tetrahedral
Highest kinetic energy was CH4
Partial pressure of N2 is 100
Copper solution was blue
Silver and something else formed a precipitate
Phenalthapin turns BASES pink
Conjugate base question? I think it was H30+ and H20 or H20 and HO-
Question about solution when mixed with something forms white precipitate (was it the nitrate compound?)
N2 = triple bond, F2 = single covalent bond
Na2CO3 = ionic and covalent bonds
O2 and O3 are allotropes
gas one is the last instrument picture
partial pressure= 1OO
one of the balancing… 4 H2o and 5 Co2 (or the other way around)
electrolysis of water 2h20 → 2h2 + 02
Ionization of water H2O–> H3O+ and OH-
Which element oxidized? Fe2+

Ionization of water H2O–> H3O+ and OH-
why higher bp… presence of ions

one of the balancing… 4 H2o and 5 Co2 (or the other way around)

^^^ it should be the other way around 5 H20 and 4 CO2 because the compound was C4H10

yeah i jsut don’t remember the order…
but they didn’t have a choice for 4 H2o and 5 Co2 right? >_<
hope i didn’t mess that up

Which element oxidized? Fe

^^^ the element oxidized was Fe2+ because it went from Fe2+ to Fe3+ so it lost electrons and oxidation involves the lost of electrons

Adding which ions will lower solubility of barium sulfate? I, II, and III

is the embargo lifted or no?

No it is definitely 4 CO2 and 5h20 . To be honest this version was a joke. I took the June one from last year and it was at least 3x more difficult.

omit 2 and miss one, still an 800?

by adding no3- that would have no effect on teh solubility of nitrate

I thought that for the barium it wad only 1 and 2. Nitrate would have no effect on the solubility of barium sulfate

Yeah, basically what you have to account for is that there already is 1L of water in the 10M solution and to get it to be 1M you need to add 9L making the total 10. It was a tricky one, especially with time on your back.

BannedHero: Isn’t solubility a colligative property? I doesn’t matter the identity of the solute.

colligative properties can be dependent on the identity of the solute because of the van’t hoff factor, which deals with how many ions the solute dissociates into

Conjugate base one I think I put something with HF and F-.

Also, the ones that would affect the solubility of the original compound is only I and II because of the common ion effect (Barium Sulfate)

what about the one asking which would precipitate with HCl? was it AgNO3?

can someone tell me, which one isnt possible al2o3 or li2o and why?
