Is there such a thing? where could i find additional information on this? Thnx

www.collegeboard.com

yes there is such a thing

but dont bother taking it.

if you score an 800, you are in the 56 percentile.

its meaningless

Whats so useless about showing College ur chinese ability, and getting another 800?

It is a useless SAT II test. 56 percentile is bad...which is sad when you get an 800.

But you have nothing to lose.

i heard that if you get one problem wrong, it's already a 750.. lol

really?? 800 is 56 percentile? well that's stupid, cuz i was counting on doing it! they should make the test harder then...

nah...one question wrong is around a 780-790.

If you're Chinese, don't bother taking it. It's contrived if you get an 800, and you'll look like an absolute moron if you don't get an 800. P

My friend - who's Chinese - got a 790 on Chinese and an 800 on Biology. She made me swear not to tell anyone about the 790 :P.

The curve is really bad because most of the people who take it are native chinese speakers, which sucks for non chinese people If you are chinese, a lot of schools will discount the score you get on it, so you're better off doing some other subject.

Pros:
1. You get to demonstrate your familiariaty with a foreign language - even if you didn't learn it in school.
2. Who DOESN'T want another 800 on their application?

Cons:
1. SAT II's are supposed to measure ACADEMIC achievement, and your parents' choice to teach you another language when you were a child should not give you an advantage.
2. It gives away your ethnicity. Almost every other Chinese applicant will have taken the exam, and colleges don't want to fill their freshman class with people who all got 800's on Chinese.

well im a Chinese, and i dont feel comfortable taking it, but I dont really have any other choices..looks like ill have to take chinese :( woq these SATs are So gay...

mebbe i should try take French haha havnt studied it for like 2 years.

Although I agree with you on some level, theoneo, I don't agree with your pro about wanting another 800 on your application. I think it is a cheap way to earn an 800..I mean I'm not saying that it isn't fair, or anything, but I mean you aren't really challenging yourself, and I think colleges will see past that.

what if you want to study international relations in China?

Colleges don't take into consideration your prospective major THAT heavily - unless if you're applying to a specific program.

And if you're Chinese anyway, you don't need to prove your proficiency unless if you learned it on your own or in school. In that case, by all means, take the SAT II and make sure you note that you weren't raised speaking Chinese as your first language.

"It is a useless SAT II test. 56 percentile is bad...which is sad when you get an 800.

Although 800 is in the 56th percentile, that doesn't mean that a specific 800 scorer is necessarily as fluent as others that also got 800. This also applies to the other tests, in which someone who got an 800 might as well be better than another person that got an 800. It's just that the test takers hit the limit. Now if they were to make a test that was impossible to ace, then we would begin to see discrepancies among the original test takers that scored 800.

I also think that it would be nice to have an additional 800 on your application. I mean it never hurts right? However, an 800 score does weight differently for a native Chinese/ABC compared to some other ethinicity, most likely non-Asian.

I am Chinese but I only use Chinese when I speak it with my friends. . .so when I heard that the SAT II was easy, I took it and got screwed because I had only minimal reading experience. . .some idiot friend told me that every word is translated into hanyupinyin, so I took his word for it and registered. . .I bsed my way through the test and got a 760. . . yeah, so the point is: don't take this stupid test unless you actually know how to read Chinese comfortable. . .I was such an idiot

btw, how badly will that screw me for college application?

Just take six other SAT IIs so you wouldn't have to write SAT II Chinese on the app.
