Sat II/ HS Question

Ok, so I’m an uprising Sophomore and asked this question a lot but I never got a “thorough” answer. So, my cousin said that I should start taking Sat II’s before I entered HS and right now I only have taken Bio M (which I got 640, and I’m retaking this Oct). She said I should only take all of the Sciences and Math. I don’t mind taking all of the sciences because in NY you have to take this exam every year (except Senior) called the Regents, which test you on the core subjects before you go to the next grade. The thing is that since the new Common Core curriculum for Math and Eng has been established, the topics and questions are much more harder (like you need things from Algebra II/Trig for CC Algebra I course). When I was looking through the Sat Subject Test Blue Book, there were questions I can solve (with a calculator) for Math I and II but the thing is that I don’t know what test I should take for pre-med program.

Here is my list for what Sat II tests I’m taking/taken in HS:

Freshmen:
Bio M - June 2015

Sophomore:
Bio M (retake - Oct 2015)
World History (w/ Chem - June 2016)
Chemistry

Junior:
Math I/Math II? (late 2016/early 2017)
US History (w/ Phys June 2017)
Physics

This is my list so far and that is not including the new Sat test either on April or June (I don’t know when to take it) and the APs I’m going to be taking. So my question is that is the alright for competitive pre-med programs like Sophie Davis or Brown? So far my final report grade was 97.17 (I dunno what is the gpa for that). I’m also going to be a leader for some clubs and my mom is heavily stressing that I shouldn’t such a huge toll for myself. To be honest, like some people here, I want to get into a really good medical program.

Thank You!

You should look into the specific programs you are interested and see their requirements. Some may require a combination of a math test (probably Math 2), a science test, and maybe a test of your choice. Most schools that require subject tests only require two, but I am not sure about medical programs, so take three, each in a different subject area, to be safe.

So far, your plan looks good. I wouldn’t bother taking Math 1 though if you’re prepared for Math 2. But since you have only finished your freshmen year, who knows how your plans might change as you go through high school. Maybe you will find that you don’t need to take as many subject tests as you planned. For instance, if you do very well on the World History subject test this year, you might decide not to take the US History test next year.

That. There is absolutely no reason to take 6 Subject Tests. No program is looking to fill its class with the best test-taking drones who apply. Unless your HS requires you to takes these exams, limit yourself to 3.
