SAT II Math I

Hey everyone,

I'm taking the Math I on January 28, 2006. I currently own the Princeton Review and have taken out Barron's (2000) Math IC book and Petersen's (2001) SAT II Math 1 & 2 book. I did the Barron's diagnostic exam and got a 640 (took it during a free period). I made a few stupid mistakes and lost points from not knowing how to do a lot of sets, probability, and stuff like that. I've read through the whole Princeton Review book once. I'm currently enrolled in Math Analysis (Pre-Calculus) and am doing very well in the class. I took Combined Algebra (advanced Alg 1 & some Alg 2 topics) in 9th grade and Geometry & Trigonometry (all Geometry and Trig up to radians) in 10th grade. Over the summer I took a Algebra & Trig class. Do you think I can get at least a 740+ on the Math I? If so, do you guys have any tips? (I know most of you guys took at the Math 2's).

Also, when I took the PSATs as a 10th grader I got a 69 in Math and as a 11th grade (past fall) I got a 69 again (I made a few dumb mistakes and should have gotten at 73 or 74).

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your feedback in advance.

I'm no genius in math...in fact, VERY far from one. I studied using the Sparknotes online book and 3 free practice tests online. Spend a day reading each major section, so you can cover the online book in a little more than a week. Then hit the practice tests. Do one a day and see where you are. I got 2-4 wrong on the tests and got a 750 on the real test, which meant I got 2 wrong (Nov. 2005). They are very accurate on telling you what score you'll get on test day...so I definitely suggest them. On the test, you should be able to race through the first 20-25 questions, so you can spend more time on the ones at the end (the tough ones). I remember I took 10 minutes to finish the first 20 questions, and 50 minutes for the next 30 including checking over. If you dont understand how to do a q and you spend more than 2 min on it, move on. Dont wait and linger over that. You wont have time to finish up the test otherwise. Plan the test well, take the practice tests and you should notch up a solid score.

Ahhh...I took the Sparknotes first 2 practice test and got a 690 and 650 respectively. The 690 should have been a 720 if I didn't make stupid mistakes. The 650 should have probably been a 670 or so if I didn't make stupid mistakes. I keep on screwing up with plane and solid geometry. I'm going to try to study that all tonight and tomorrow (I'm not going to school.) Do you guys think I can still get a 740-750+ on the test Saturday?

Anything is possible, even a 400-. Just hope for the best and good luck!

Ahhh...that's not what I wanted to hear, but you're right.

BTW, what part of NYC are you from? I'm really close by. Do you go to peter stuyvasent?

No I don't. I live in Manhattan.

Cool. That must be an awesome life...living in the city...btw, i live in union (near elizabeth)

How accurate is the test from the college board SAT II book? I got a 710 and would have gotten an 800 if i didnt make careless mistakes.

Collegeboard one is very accurate. It is probably the most accurate.

yay! there's hope for me then
can anyone verify? cuz if it totally true...im going to bed...

Has anyone intl taken the math 1 yet? if so, how was it?
