SAT II Math - Which one should I take?

I'm applying to UPenn and I'm planning to take the Chemistry and Math I Subject tests in January 2010. However, I've heard from people that taking Math I will hurt my chances of admission, and that I should take Math II if I want to have a better chance. Is that true?

However, I come from a rural area and I don't feel that my high school prepared me for the levels in Math II. What should I do?

From reading things on cc, I think Math II is a better option - but only if you will do well on it. You have until January, so if you think you can prepare well enough for it, I would definitely vote yes.

If you’re applying to Penn its usually better to have math II, and if you’re applying for wharton its crucial that you have math II to have any chance of getting accepted.
I can totally relate, my school didn’t prepare me for Math II, not by a longshot but that is more due to the fact that I go to an economics school. And anyway, what I did was I took the Math I in November and i’m preparing for the Math II in january.
Best thing to do would be to do some practice tests in level 1 and then level 2 and see if you’re comfortable enough with level 2.
good luck! :)

math II for sure. Get Barron’s book and struggle through it…TWICE. That’s a guaranteed 800.

Like others have said, Math IIC. The curve is also a bit more lenient than the IC, and the material isn’t that much harder, imo.

I used the books Sparknotes put out for the IIC in addition to their extra booklet with practice tests. It was great preparation for an 800.
