hi guys i need some help with my sat ii scores, they aren't very ideal i don't know why but here is the run-down

biology e: 750
math ii: 720 (ugh...i don't know why this is so low, i'm generally good at math)
us history: 750
literature: 720

they aren't the highest scores, but i got a 2340 on the sat reasoning test so i don't really know what went wrong. i have a 4.40+ GPA and i participate in e.c.s etc so everything else seems to be fine...do you think these scores will hurt my chances for ivy league schools or other top tier schools? or are there any scores you wouldn't submit? i'm thinking of going into some sort of business/econ/international relations field?

If I lived close to you, I would tokyo drift my car to your house and Bruce Lee punch you until you came to your senses. Those scores are outstanding and I don’t understand why you are worrying. If I got a 2,000 and 700’s on my results, I would sing “I believe I can fly.” But if it makes you feel any better, your scores are in the crap shoot and no Ivy league school is going to accept you because you got a 2340 on your SAT is a disgrace and your SAT subject tests are way too easy to not get a perfect score. And what is wrong with your GPA?! It should be higher!

*Note my severe sarcasm. Best of luck my over-stressed friend.

hahahaha i enjoyed the sarcasm! but to be fair, i’m not worried about anything except my SAT subject tests…most people say you’re out of the running if math II is anything less than an 800, and none of my subject tests seem high, they’re just borderline for the ivy league schools…anyone else have advice? :

I didn’t dk as well on Math II than I thought I would either… I would definitely try retaking it since that’s the one test where 800’s seem to be fairly common. Your literature seems to be kinda low too but retaking it is your choice.

If you have time and if you’re not a Senior, retake Math II and Literature. Only if you’re confident that you can improve. Otherwise, time can be used elsewhere.

do colleges see how often you retake a test/are you required to send in all your scores even for subject tests? i know this is the case for the reasoning test but is it the same for subject tests?

Above 700 is outstanding, even to the Ivies. All that talk about I MUST GET AN 800 OR I’M DOOMED is for people with no sense of reality.

And check out the percentiles for Literature; Literature is one of the MOST difficult, so above a 700 means a lot. 720 on the Math II - take it again if you can. But the others are completely fine and good enough for Ivies.

The subject tests are not just supposed to be “harder version” of the SAT, they are different and show well-roundedness. Above 700 in math, science, and English is pretty darn good and diversified.

Please note that if you can research the top school, or at worst, top three schools of your dreams, and show them in your essays that you want to go there and that you will fit in, that’s what will get you in to the school of your choice. MANY people with perfect scores and GPAs and even stellar ec’s to boot have gotten rejected from their top school.

Ok thanks for the advice! the one i am most worried about would definitely be math - so you would recommend taking that again? Would colleges be able to see that I have taken it again or will they just see my highest score?

Is 720 on the Math SAT II considered to be low for Ivy league/top tier standards or is it borderline (as in it will neither help nor hurt my application)?

Hi!
I believe colleges will not see that you have taken it again because you can send whichever ‘test date’ is better in regards to your score.

I’d definitely recommend retaking SAT II Math if you have the time, especially if you think you’re good at math. Aim for a 780+ and you’ll be fine. 720 seems too low compared to your fellow applicants who probably have 800s or somewhere around that range. As for Lit, I’d say try to retake that as well since your subject tests are your biggest concern.

FYI. 15% student got 800 in Math2 in the June test. Try to aim for the 90 percentile of each subject if you are applying to Ivy caliber schools. For top 50 schools, aim for 75 percentile.
