People on the SAT II Preparation threads are useless so I thought I'd be better off asking here - is Literature/World History easier (for someone with little knowledge of World History) and are Barron's preparation books for Maths IIC and Literature/World History good? Or are some other books better?

Get Barrons for WH. I crammed it in 2 weeks with my last history class over 2 years before, and got a 760. If you are good at memorizing and have some knowledge of history, you should be fine. A solid base in geography helps a lot when making the connections. Studying Barrons in conjunction with Kaplan will get you an 800 if you have the time to study. Also, dont worry if you get high 600s low 700s on their practice tests. They are waaay harder than the real thing. In addition to these books, take a look at the two Real SAT II World History tests...they are accurate indicators of the score.

As for lit, I cannot speak of that dreadful exam that i despise from the bottom of my heart. I got a 600 (fortunately it didnt count since it was my 6th SAT II, my top two were 760,750 phew..) If you get 800 in Verbal SAT I, you have a solid chance of getting 700+ in literature from what I have seen. The lit test is basically BS in my opinion...writing essays on the subject are so much better.

Math IIC - barrons all the way from what I've heard. It overpreps but is excellent.

good luck.

DO NOT BUY BARRON'S MATH IIC BOOK.

Sorry :) Just had to get my opinion out there. Math IIc is very easy with some basic precalculus. The Barron's book will only confuse you, intimidate you, and throw you on the wrong track.

Cheers people - everyone seems to say that Literature is really difficult.. is there anywhere on the internet I can see a sample paper before I decide to take it (got to decide soon)? And a World History sample paper for that matter? I need to decide between the two.

GuitarMan - how did you prepare Maths IIc? Did you just use what you already knew from class? I am doing maths a-level but it might be different to the stuff covered in american schools.

The literature was a super easy test. If you're a fast reader, you can easily get an 800. I got a 790 on it on a bad day.

Ace is Back - Yep. Just from what I learned in class. Very easy 800! The test has an enormous curve (I recall leaving 9 blank out of 50, I believe!), so you should do fine! And, don't listen to Divanny, she's crazy :p

ditto the above.

The math IIC is easy if you've taken precalc. So if you're taking precalc this year, take the SATII in June. Before you do, though, get some sample tests (from books and such), so as to get a general idea of the types of problems on the test.

The world history SATII is easy - if you've taken a comprehensive world history course. Otherwise, you will not score so well; the questions are quite specific.
