My daughter is a soph., has a 4.0 (5.33) GPA, but seems to have an aversion to math. I've suggested that she take the SAT II in Physics since she has a 99 average. She also has had Biol. I & II and Physiological Ecol. as well as Chem I. She will take Marine Biol. next year & Chem II as a senior. She is starting Latin III (dual enrollment) & will be taking adv. Span.II next year. She also has taken French I. I don't recall all the subscores but she had 30 for Reading on the ACT as a fresh. She has had through pre-cal but wants to wait & take calc. as a senior (reluctantly...doesn't test well on the big tests despite A+ in all her math classes). I would like some feedback to pass along as to what you would suggest she take for SAT II. Oh, she will probably major in biol. sciences.
( she's taking AP WH & Art Hist. so she will be taking AP exams in those)
Thanks for any advice

Biology SAT II is generally acknowledged as one of the easiest. I'm currently studying it myself.

If your child is majoring in biology, she should definitely take the test!

Your daughter is...a sophomore?

...

A sophomore!?

...

She may have an aversion to math, but she sounds so ridiculously smart that she would need hardly any studying to get an 800 on the IIC. A lot of (or all, maybe) colleges that require SAT IIs require the math, so definitely take the IIC. Not only does it look better, it's got a better curve.

Yes,...I think the only concern is where she has not tested as well on the math sections ( I mean embarrassingly low for her...there were some circumstances that could have affected her performance, not to give an excuse) How much would a lower score hurt if her transcript & everything else looks good?

Also, is Biol/E or Biol/M harder or does that depend on the classes & prep she has had.

for biol - it depends on the classes/ prep - and what she better understands. Molecular is detail oriented, Ecology is more overall comprehension - i think. I took Biol/M (800) without a problem, probably because of my class, but also because I just don't like ecology as much.

Math IIC should be fine. If worst comes to worst, she'll get below a 700, and she can just take it again. The grading curve is very easy, though i do remember some of the questions being really difficult. She'll need the math exam anyway, best not to wait too long, especially since she's taken pre-calc. That means she has a decent grasp of trig and alg II, which is most important on the exam.

btw - if she plans on taking one of the math exams at all, it's best to take IIC simply because it looks significantly better, but isn't all that much more difficult.
