As you guys know, the SAT II subject writing had been eliminated months ago. I would like to know in your opinion, of those who had taken both tests, which seems easier, and ESPECIALLY for the essay, if you feel the grading is easier or harder. That is could a mediocre essay on the NEW SAT get a perfect score because I hear they take a quick one minute reading on the NEW SAT and there are a lot more poeple taking it.

So please, any comparisions and differences..?

SAT II Writing by a landslide. One person performed about the same on both tests and received a 780 in SAT II Writing and a 710 new SAT Writing. This is why the Collegeboard says the two are not comparable, and most schools will not consider the new writing as much of a factor in admissions.

thats sucks for me. Although I got a 1480 on the old sat, i got a 640 on the old subject test. This will really hurt me. I plan on taking the NEW sat for the sole purpose of improving the writing score and really not caring about the other two scores because I know colleges will use the best scores. So pretty much, I wanted to know if it was easier..?

But, what about Essay Grading..? Is it easier to get a 12?

I would say the two tests are very similar, esp. the multiple choice questions.

I'm not sure about the curves, but I can tell you what happened to me.

I got 6 MC questions wrong on the SAT II (I think) and got 9 for the essay. I wound up with a scaled score of 770.

On the SAT I, I got one MC question wrong, 10 on the essay, and got 800 scaled.

So the scaled scores are pretty close, but the performance differences were fairly large. Draw your own conclusions... maybe the SAT II was more generous than the SAT I.

Almost everyone I know, the people on CC and even people I don't know scored lower on the new writing test. I have also noticed that the number of easy questions were reduced and the hard ones were kept the same. PS, the article used to be the easiest part but now it can be pretty tough if you are tight on time.

Okay, so the new writing section is basically useless? If one were to get a very good score on the new SAT writing and also be trying to portray himself as someone who's very good at writing, would the test not really help in that person's evaluation? You don't think the adcoms will subconsciuosly give kids with high writing scores a preference?
