SAT II: U.S. History Discussion May 2009

Randomly, but McCarthy and JFK’s friendship was over their shared anticommunism in their youth, by the way.

But yeah. I’m not too certain of this at all.

Bee123, Nixon was not a MAJOR war hero, just a LOCAL war hero. That is why he got elected to House of Representatives for his DISTRICT (read Local). This has always been a phenomenon after wars that heroes from localities get elected to government posts. You might be wondering how one knows Nixon was a war hero, well, Nixon was confronted about running for office immediately after the war ended by the branch of Republican Party for that district. Furthermore, I promise you the question asked how did they START their political careers.

RedCatharsis: I remember there being an answer choice to the effect of “Germany’s continuation of unrestricted submarine warfare…”

I forgot the War Hawks, Gulf of Tonkin, Great Depression, and Imports questions. I may be able to answer if you remind me what each was asking for.

Colonial legislatures is very tricky question to answer since I forget what years it was referring to. If it came all the way up to the revolutionary period, then it clearly tapered off since royal governors became very powerful, often dissolved legislative bodies etc near the revolution. Here is a good link for that: [The Gilder Lehrman Institute. Modules on American History](http://www.gilderlehrman.org/teachers/module1/intro_pop9.html)

Also, McCarthy had a strong relationship with JFK’s family in the past. In fact, he dated one of the Kennedy clan at one point. JFK did not particularly like McCarthy regarding his actions in the legislature so he avoided many sessions that pertained to McCarthy, especially after McCarthy became a disgrace.

Whoever was questioning Florida as first European (yes, Spain is in Europe) establishment:
"In 1559, Spanish Pensacola was established by Don Trist

What would 7-9 wrong be :(

an 800…
lol

that Kennedy, McCarthy, Nixon one kind of irks me, but I still thought it was easy overall

The War Hawks question basically asked why they wanted war.

The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was an answer choice to a question about which gave the president a mandate to conduct war

Great Depression: Which of the following did not characterize the United States during the first 3 years of the Great Depression? (I put inflation because there was deflation, not inflation.)

The imports question was a graph with exports and imports. It was an except question

who were the first systematic explorers
spain or portugal

hey what did you guys get for the graph that said “which of the following about imports vs. exports is not true”?

also do you guys remember a question that had phillipines as the answer?

hmm really USNAgolden2014? Whats the max you can get wrong and still get an 800 for this test do you think

lemonio-it was portugal. portugal explored the far east much before the rest of europe began exploring.

I have one you all forgot!!!
The one about the executive enforcing the courts decisions being one of the basic protections of democracy

i put A about eisenhower enforcing brown v board of education (little rock central integration)

I AM KING! I HAVE REVEALED THE TRUTH! YOU ARE ALL EXALTED IN MY PRESENCE!

i mandate that all posters after me give me a virtual high five

Mhm. But then what’s the point of having him run as a hero if nobody knows?

Most people are agreeing with me that that wasn’t an option because it would have been too obvious then.

See above posts, they’re basically right.

Thanks.

But, isn’t what I mentioned, a point of how they were anticommunists? This was in their youth, btw, not after they were politicians.

It’s the one where one is higher than the other but the graph is lying. I sorta remember now looking at it and going, mhm, that’s not true.

I had that graph mixed up with the other one, which is black voting bar graph, for a while. I thought that was asking which is not true D:

^uhhh we already got that one. sorry !

oh, and unrestricted submarine warfare was an option. but it was an except question, so that wasn’t the answer.

Lancer i am positive the question asked what they shared in common which is the anticommunist sentiment. No way would collegeboard make the answer be that they were all war “heroes” because that is way too specific and discrete as well as the fact that they weren’t celebrated heroes. 100 percent positive it is the anticommunist answer.

Wait…that was an except question…

We both talking about the WWI question where C is declare war before mexico declares war? (I think it’s C)
And A is unreserved support for britain’s neutrality policy?

portugal was the first

RedCatharis, do you remember the exact question of the We attack Mexico first. Like what was the question about?

First off, it was “declare war before Mexico does” i think that’s the LITERAL answer.

The question was simply, of the following, “Which is true about WWI?”

I think. But somebody said it was an except question. There is no way…but I’m the one who compiled like 87 questions…so yeah -_-

I don’t really remember :[

Germny sank ships…
