lol k I was totally unaware of SAT II's until recently. <_<

BUT. I am planning on taking the US History one and Biology asap.

Questions: How hard is the US History one? I've taken AP US, but of course my exam score is still pending. I'd like to get a score of 740+. However, I've taken two online Sparknotes tests just now and got a flat 600 on both lol.... What prep and/or review books would you recommend and why?

Regarding the Biology test, I've only been in Honors Bio. I aced the class and all, but I took it last year so I may be foggy. I haven't tried a Sparknotes test on Biology yet. Same thing here: aiming for a 740+. What prep/review books would you recommend and why?

I currently have the Kaplan APUSH book and the SAT Subject book. For Bio, I have the Princeton Review. I haven't looked at either Subject books, for I fear having made a mistake in my purchases. :x

SO yeah. Help a lost child. D= Advice and recommendations, please.

Bump bump please respond. :3

Yay 670 on the 3rd US test lol.

AMSCO is great for US History and Barrons is very thorough for Biology.

Also, many people do significantly worse on the Spark Notes test than the real thing so do not worry if you are not at your target score.

Yes, that is AMSCO. Best of luck!

AMSCO is the general opinion. Though I’ve never used it. The PR from AP works just as well for US history along with Spark Notes SAT II book. If you can’t get AMSCO I guess. That’s what I’m using. The PR got me a good 5, so I recommmend.

For Bio, Idk about not having had AP first but definitely go with Barron’s SAT book. It’s not a hard book at all (some people say it is, but I think it’s just the practice tests) and it apparently has more info than you need. Which for Bio is a very good thing.

Wait, so is Sparknotes the same to US History as Barron’s is to Math II?
Either way, I’ve been using the online sparknotes book to review overall, and only going to AMSCO for my problem time period (1864-1912). Sparknotes online review seems pretty comprehensive though, and it’s all free (a major plus!)
I haven’t taken the SAT 2 for USH, but if you’ve prepared well for the AP Test, then I think you’ll be fine
I don’t know anything about the SAT 2 for bio though, but I’ve heard E is easier for most people. But it depends, I’m better at M…

Spark Notes is not as proportionately difficult as Barron’s, but for a lot of people there is a sizable difference in the score on the practice test and the real thing.

Ecology is generally not as difficult to understand. But many people are better at M. I’m decent at both, but with E, it might be more random knowledge so I’m going with M. I think. Spark Notes is probably not as difficult as Barron’s but it’s still harder than the exam for most people.

I’d go for Crash Course for US History by REA.

My daughter took both USHistory and Biology (M). Took the USH right after taking APUSH and her “studying” consisted of watching the History Channel while studying for her Physics and Pre-Calc exams. Still managed a 770. Her school didn’t offer AP Bio, but she did take Microbiology through the SUNY “University in the Classroom” program, supplemented with self-study with the Barron’s book. She got a 740 as I recall.

I recently took the Bio-M test. Barron’s is a good, comprehensive book (even a little too detailed sometimes), so it will teach you well. I self-studied to take it a year after my bio class and managed to do very well. Don’t get scared if you score low on their practice tests though- I scored 50-70 points higher on the real test than the practice tests.
