I wast thinkin of taking the Sat II for US History and heard that AMSCO was good for both the Subject Test and AP Test. Since I'm also going to be taking the AP test, I thought I'd just get that book. One thing I was wondering though, can I rely solely on the AMSCO book to prepare for the Subject Test, or will I have to buy a separate book? Can I just use Barron's SAT History book for both tests?

I found AMSCO to be great for both AP and SAT.

This is my all time favorite choice: Amazon.com: United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination: John J. Newman: Books

Go through this and your old AP book, and you should do great on the Subject Test. I want to emphasize that it's good to focus on important details for SAT. That's why I like the idea of having more than one book, so you get to see the information presented in different ways multiple times to really help you retain the information. Good luck!

Barron's (SAT book): I would not recommend it. I did read through the whole thing, but my complaints are:
1) It focuses way too much on political trends (it's even divided up into sections based on presidencies) and neglects a lot of important social movements which I saw come up on the test.
2) The practice tests are absolutely horrible. They test the most obscure details, are absurdly difficult, inaccurate. Overpreparing IMO is a good thing, but these questions are not even close to being representative of the actual test.

Let me know if you need any specific info. Hope that helped.

I got a 760 on U.S. History. If you're interested, I actually used Princeton Review for AP and Barron's. Using two sources helped me compare and see what both books covered. You get a full range of information. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll get Amsco to review for both. I'll probably end up getting another book for a few practice tests. Does anyone have any suggestions on which book is good for practicetests?

I would recommend the Kaplan book. It covers material pretty well in correlation to the American Pageant. Just make sure you memorize the key events and you are set. Ride your way to that 700+.

I can't remember what prep book I used, but I really liked it.
I know is not helpful at all, but it was yellow and the logo was in a red oval...
