SAT II Writing: Problems, Questions, and Stress Galore!

Ok, i really need help. I just realized yesterday that you can’t change the date for the SAT’s or SAT II unless you do it two and a half weeks before. I’m taking it Dec. 4 and i’ve just started studying/preparing yesterday. So lots of questions:]

  1. Do i take the test at all?- I want to take it since i paid the money and can’t really get it back. And i’m okay? w/ writing and grammar but one week of study might not help much
  2. How good of a preparation is Sparknotes and their tests compared to the actual SAT II? I took one today and got a 710 (just grammar) and w/ an essay score of:
    1 530 7 660
    2 540 8 680
    3 560 9 710
    4 590 10 740
    5 600 11 770
    6 630 12 800

Of course there is no way i’m getting a 11 or a 12 as i ramble too much and i missed 7 questions on the MC.

Can i substitute the SAT II writing for the writing section on the new SAT and not have to take the new ones?

Is it a bad thing to take a SAT II test more than once? I’m not sure how well i’ll do on this test and will probably end up wanting to take it again. Will this look bad on my college apps?

How hard is the writing test? From what i hear it’s easire than most people thought it was. For some reason, i don’t believe them.

So, yeah, any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Go ahead! I did some last minute studying and got a 760. I probably could have done better, but I'm definitely not good at testing at 9am.

I have no idea, sorry. Try searching.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can.

No, I don't think so. I plan on retaking some of mine because I know i can do much better. Just don't take it more than 2 times, maybe 3.

I thought the writing test was amazingly easy. I took it in November. Some say that the essay was really specific, but I wrote basically a part of my app. essay, and I got an 11 on it. No lit. sources or historical sources. Inevitably, I make stupid mistakes, which is also why I got a 760 instead of a higher score. It's really not that hard if you are pretty good with proper sentance structure. And there's usually a pretty good curve from what I've heard. The curve for Novembers test was nicer than the one in my prep book.

If you aren't sure of how accurate Sparknotes' tests are, take one from PR. I found it to be pretty accurate. Also, whether or not you get a question wrong, go back and figure out why you answered that way, and if you got it wrong, try to understand why the correct answer works. Hope this helps!

thanks, wow, you did pretty well on your essay. My problem with those would be that it's too general and open. I couldn't be able to think of any examples at all.
And the reason I was wondering how reliable Sparknotes' practice/review is was because i really don't have time to get other resources. But hey, thank, i feel vaguely more reassured.

Sparknotes tests are absolutely fantastic predictors for the real test. I am confident that they are the best prep for Writing that exists.
