SAT II's and CMU

I'm applying to tepper. I know the SAT II reqs are a match subject test and any other test, "preferably science."

I only took one bio class freshman year. I have not taken physics yet. I know I can do very well on the Lit. SAT II and I would MUCH rather take it than a science subject test.

If I get great score in the lit SAT, will they overlook the fact that I took lit and not a science?

Is it really a big deal?

Thanks

Unfortunately Tepper requires it applicants to take both Math (1c or 2c) AND one science.

Here's a link to each school's requirements. http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/admission/know/college_req.html#SIA

I don't know whether failing to meet a school's requirements mean they toss aside your application without even looking at the rest of it, but either way I would recommend taking a science.

Hope that helps.

this may be a dumb question but i've never taken the SAT 2 before and i know they are an hour long each....can you sign up just to take them or do you have to take the SAT 1 as well? (I've already taken the 1 and i really would prefer not to again)

You can sign up to take only SAT II's.

And you can take up to 3 SAT IIs on one test day.

that's wierd, because according to this link
http://my.cmu.edu/site/admission/page.academic_req#TSB

it says math plus any testbut preferably science. It doesn't say anything about taking two math SAT II's, I think that two in parenthesis means two SAT II's total. I hope.

Hey Badkarma, don't ever feel bad about asking a question. That's what we're here to do--answer your questions. Perhaps I can clear up your confusion.

You take the SAT Subject Tests separately from the SATs I, not on the same day.

You may take anywhere from 1-3 Subject Tests during one sitting.

What the two in parenthesis means is that CMU wants you to take two of the following tests. You normally take 1 math and 1 science, not 2 maths. Between the two options of math, math IIc is harder and is generally taken by the more advanced students.

You are also correct that there is a disrepency between the links.
http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/admiss...e_req.html#SIA says
Math Level I, Ic or IIc
Physics, Chemistry or Biology

while http://my.cmu.edu/site/admission/page.academic_req#TSB says
Math Level I, Ic or IIc
Any second test but preferably a science

I would recommend asking an admission officer about the current policy as one of the two links is clearly out of date.

I'm in the same shape as the OP. I am not very good in science and haven't taken honors science. I took USHist (730) and Math IIc (700). I called admissions to Tepper a while ago and the guy said something like they really would like to see a science one but when I posted here someone said they got into Tepper without one. I want to major in either Marketing or Organizational Behavior (or whatever they call it at Tepper) so I don't know why science is relevant.
