SAT IIs- SCORES AND SIGNFICANCE

So to add to my confusion and angst-- Is a 780 in US HX good enough, even though it puts me in a lower percentile than the same score on the SAT I? And what is the relative weight afforded these sinister subject tests that we are forced to take in one day if we go to public schools with clueless counselors who fail to inform or pace us in time? ( I have two more in a row in June--math II, chem). Then there's the option of taking the ACT instead? What is a pathetic junior to do?

Wait, are you serious? a 780 in a subject test is nothing to scoff at. You’re completely fine. I swear, the entire college process just makes some delusional about the definition of success. I go to a public school as well, and I sympathize about the SATII thing…but I would recommend taking the SATI AND the ACT in june, as that way you have some time (October) to potentially increase your score if you don’t like it the first time around.

You’re not pathetic, just not ahead of the game!

Thanks, myprinceton. Good luck to you too. and yeah, I already took the SAT I. Did great in english and writing (800, 800) but need to bring up my math.( 690) Cant WAIT to take it again in Oct!!! How are you doing?

first of all, relax; I don’t care what anyone here or anywhere else tells you – subject test scores are not all that important. I got a 750 on lit and a 730 on math level 2. yes, that’s right: a lowly, paltry 730 on the easiest subject test offered. and guess what? I got into Princeton. I’m not a legacy, a URM, or part of any other privileged group. As long as you performed well in your classes, you are fine. Strong AP scores also help to offset weak ST scores, but if you get rejected from Princeton, you can bet that your 780 was not to blame. Focus on pursuing your passions, writing great essays, and enjoying life. That’s what they want to see.

i wouldn’t call math 2 the easiest subject test, considering there is math 1, not that anywhere actually accepts it.

I did Math I, only got 720, English 750 Bio 760 and got into Princeton. I also got a 690 on my Math and about the same on my other SAT scores @readyforit. I think the SATs for you guys is nothing to worry about!

@jr5570, you mentioned that “strong AP scores also help to offset weak ST scores.”

I was wondering, how did you send your AP scores to colleges? Did you send them directly to the college through the College Board like you would do for the SATs, or did you just let colleges know about it in the section of the Common App where they ask you to list your best AP and SAT II scores?

In other words, in what formats are AP scores accepted in? For example, colleges won’t accept your SAT II scores unless if they’re sent directly from the College Board, but is it the same with AP scores?

Thank you very much!

(This is kind of n00by on my part, but ignore this. Just made this post so I could get instant notifications for this topic because I didn’t mark the option in my other post. :P)
