SAT II's VS AP's

Hi, in applying to college, how are AP exams viewed vs SAT II's ?

thanks in advance

SAT IIs are required and do not give you placement or credit.

APs are never required (as far as I know), but of course contribute to getting accepted since they are considered challenging courses. Also, good scores (4 or 5, occasional 3) usually give you placement and very rarely credit.

And next time, do more research. This is college basics 101.

SAT II can affect your placement at some schools...for example, at UF, your SAT II language scores can get you into higher level classes if they are good enough.

sphoenixee - maybe vin WAS doing research by posting here (what a concept!). Granted, it would have been better if he had searched past threads before making his own, but I think it's uncommon enough that it was valid to post. If you couldn't answer without being snarky, why answer at all?

I have also heard of SAT II scores being used for placement (but not necessarily credit). Specifically, Math Level II & language tests.

In addition, at EVERY college I applied to and looked at comprehensively to decide if I wanted to apply, they did offer credit for AP scores. Some had small caps on the amount of credit they would give (like Wesleyan), others had large caps (like University of Miami), and others had no cap at all (like Case Western).

For someone who claims this is "college basics 101", you sure seem to have a lot of wrong information.

I have lots of wrong info; really? Considering I did not even post a lot, you're stretching the truth greatly. Some of my info is wrong though, I do admit.

And, yes, at every college you applied to, AP got credit. Not every college gives AP credit for everything though. For example, MIT only gives credit for Calc BC and Physics C (not AB or B). See http://web.mit.edu/FIRSTYEAR/prospective/ap/index.html

I did not know about the SAT IIs being used for placement. Apparently the colleges I researched on did not have this option. My bad. Here I was wrong. But hey, this is why we have lots of people here to answer questions, eh?

I still maintain that vin did not do very much research on the topic. By research, I mean google or search or reading books, through which one could have easily obtained this info.

Oh, and aphoticmelody, take your own advice.
