SAT January 2012 - Critical Reading

@Good job that should be experimental sec I am pretty sure

can someone please explain the depends answer

i put recycling not govt official…

@desigirl23,

why is it not the government official in energy, wanting to be a science teacher or whatever?

The passing stranger question was —he would believe this is an accurate depiction of a reader.

@almost
I explained this before…
the man got on a boat after his success and went other places to share his advice
Much like a recycling head in one state, holding workshops to give advice to others.

did anyone have the traffic control passage? was it experimental?

@lmack,

it said something like his proffessional career rided on his knowing of something.

you can replace ride with depend bc they mean the same thing

Traffic control was not experimental.

which was the 20 minute section?

@lmack

What does rides mean here
“The professional success of a photographer rides on the social tolerance of that era.” or something similar.

drac what else can u think of for the clocks

what were other choices for that question

The thing is about that analogous question,

the guy ended up teaching social things as well, even though he wasn’t really qualified for that. So why isn’t the government official, who works with energy, teaching science in general the same thing?

For the vocab about Keats was his writing Voluptuous or Harmonious. I said “harmonious” because that word works better with “diction” but one of my friends says the blank had negative connotations. Does anyone remember the original question?

@drac313 it means “depends”

Critical reading is my worse section, but only relative to my math and writing sections (consistent 800s on practice tests). I thought that critical reading this time around was easier than practice tests/previous tests, but apparently I misinterpreted some of the easier passages. Disappoint.

@rdash31415 “voluptuous” just had a better ring to it than harmonious. The usage of visual imagery, good diction, etc. provides for a sensual experience, hence a voluptuous experience.

sat 100 r u almost done?..ugh im down to -6 or -7 for critical reading i think

I had a section about the alexanders, traffic control, the physiological clock and one about photography did anyone not have one of these sections?

what do u think the curve will be like for this?

I definitely did not put captivated… also for the speaker analogy did not get …erudition. Erudition = scholarly. I got …evasiveness instead, since some might have thought the speaker was avoiding discussing a topic thoroughly.

Updated. Still adding a couple more.

SC

meticulous
prescient
unique (this was one of the easy questions about a girl winning a nobel prize. It was the first question, so I am sure everyone got it right)
adroit…erudition
quackery…forestall
Ruminant
Obdurate
Ruminant
Docile
Voluptuous
