SAT January 2012 - Critical Reading

For the thing in the dashes. It was along the lines of

–according to legend if you believe it or not–

it was certainly not an assertion or a hypothesis but rather was qualifying the statement by stating the source where he got the information.

I didn’t really like the reading section.

Any consensus on Methodology versus Philosophy?

I but methodology. Because the guy in the other passage went and did it. It was like methodology and …something about completing an action…

Yeah, I put methodology as well.

Again, there’s alot more posters here smarter than me, but i really didn’t see a philosophy. And I can’t remember the other word, but it didnt fit either

for photographers i also remember 2 questions with answer choices that i picked like noting subtleties for the bigots and also using the camera to solve a problem

And the one with the chick at the grave and the beezzz where experimental?

@Jman: Yeah, I got both of those (subtle, and I think the solving problem was that he told him that a good use of his photographing skills could make a change)

For the traffic question, what did you guys get for the drivers “against their will” I was kind of confused.

good stuff so far i have everything correct except for quack which im gonna defend my answer to the end and be OBDURATE

There was no philosophy being discussed by the passage. There was a methodology which was discussed, which was later tested by the author of passage 2 (whereby he declared it helpful yet possibly harmful)

The author of passage 2 had some obvious withdrawn attitude towards the methodology that was being expressed by author 1. His taken-backness indicated that it was not the “philosophy” answer, which failed to expound on author 2’s position as much as the “methodology” answer, which was complete and unlacking.

I remember another photography question.

What was the job of the author of passage two?

I put to capture pictures of people in certain emotion/moment. Not very confident in my choice.

edit: What is this “methodology” question?

@mpgh it was resented the new rules in the traffic passage

For a question in the photography passage,

a question about the “possibility” in passage 2, and what represents it in Passage 1,

did you guys say the Cawkwell stories? or the expected effect of his soon to be published book (something along those lines)?

Any one else?

what did you put for why was black photographer hired?

Updated answers

Passage

Graveyard, policeman, landlord passage

The police officer was polite
Cold-blooded Rational
Another meaning in context: depends
Why does the author use something something something for lines ??-??. Answer was foreshadow
Author was captivated by Mrs.Alexander
Mrs.Alexander was proud and aloof
Author was contented

Blogs
Both authors talk about… Commenting on contemporary practices
Passage 1 talks about all the benefits of a blog, and passage 2 speaks of it in ambivalence
Both authors think… That bloggers put private things on blogs.
What does the author 2 think about the characterization of strangers in passage 1? Debate between “Intrusion of personal experience” and “Good description of readers”

Indian singer

The passage views the singer in ‘awe’
Why did the author use the words ??(the words really underscored the musicians skills). Dramatize

Traffic lights

The traffic engineers gained apperciable influence.
The author uses morroco to Montana to suggest that… Traffic lights/laws had become standardized
The analogy question. States wanting worker to hold workshops.
-The author mentions the * insert guys name here* is even better at social engineering to show… That his skills are diverse. Answer choice has diverse
-The motorists find the new laws… They resent the new laws
-What does the author suggest about cyclists, and walkers? They have to share space(or maybe it was lanes?) with the motorists.
-What can be inferred about the discussion of bycicilist lanes? There no general consensus upon the issue.
-Why did the author add “the only law was to “keep right””? Underscored the need for more car laws.

Old farm

-Which would discredit the people in line ___ most? Finding out that the villagers bought their wheat from outside traders.
-Something about the author trying to show that there was scientific proof

-The author wrote this passage to. Talk about a phenomenon and all its solutions
-That author mentions long-flights to. Show that the internal clock fixes itself to the surrounding
-The scientist chose the cave because. To get rid of the sunlight

-The author writes “One experiment in 1917 and another half a century later” because… To show that there is scientific evidence, or something close to that.

Photography

How do the two passages relate? Passage One lays out a philosophy that passage two talks about in detail
Word in context: Progression. Development was in the sentence so it leads me to believe that it was progression, and not direction.
What was the job of the author of passage 2? To capture pictures of people in certain moods/moments.
What do the authors of passage 1 and 2 agree upon? Waiting for an answer
What do the authors of passage 1, and 2, and the guy who hired the author of passage 2 agree upon? Waiting for an answer for this as well.

Here is an answer I remember, but I don’t know where it belongs: To qualify a statement.
I think it was quoting “if we can believe legends”.

What was the answer to the question that was like what does ‘camera’ refer to?

was one of the answers for vocab transcribed?

I thought the answer was a philosophy that passage 2 delved into detail on because the general idea was that photography is a powerful medium which a truly skilled photographer can use to influence/reveal the truth, while passage 2 illustrates this concept and analyzes it a bit further.
