HI

by going through the last years decisions threads, I noticed that the SAT 1 MAth score is emphasised a lot.

Does the SAT 2 score compensate for a bad SAT 1??
SAT 1-700
Sat 2-770

Has anybody (international that is) been accpeted with those SAT maths?
I can tfind anybody with SAT Math score less than 750 anywhere on the board

It's all about the whole package. One score cannot hurt/help you. Having said that, take a look at this:

Middle 50% of students(CIT): 700-790(You're score is better than 25% of CIT applicants)

Middle 50% of students(SCS): 720-800(Here, unfortunately, you fall into the bottom 25th percentile)

Again, one score cannot hurt you so much. And the SAT II will help(even more if it was IIc)

but will one bad score keep me out?

700 isn't really "bad". I doubt if that one score would keep you out. If it were 600, perhaps they'd wonder. Not 700 which is a respectable score.

Good luck, you'll know soon!

There's no point to stress about this now. It's out of your hands. Just relax, focus on other things, and see how it turns out. Your score is not bad, but no one here can give you a definitive answer. Good luck.

Which school did you apply for?
The 770 shows you're more than just competent, so I don't think your math scores will be a problem. Again, admissions isn't based on just one thing.

Karthik, did u get into MIT

no, banerjee i dint get in. nobody from my school did.

I applied to SCS. but how come NONE on this board has math SAT score of 700? that is what got me realy worried

dude, don't feel bad man. People on this board are way, way above the average applicant as are you so don't worry about it. By the way, about MIT, even those two guys who like controlled the Mars rover didn't get in???
see that is so strange. Since I got rejected, I have become completely disillusioned with that school so you know, who cares right???

Yes banerjee, i completely agree with you. well, since i was in the intenrational pool, i hardly expcted to get in, but yeah both of those guys di expect to get in. and both got rejected.
I wonder who they took, though another student(bas007) from the Red rover goes to Mars got in. and another sudent from the group where i represnted my country got in. SO IRRITATING.

the people who got into MIT this year are absolute beasts. the mars rover guys didn't get in? ***? I agree, rbanerjee, with the 'disillusioned' statement.

yeah, i agree.

can we get back to the original post?

I disagree with the MIT acceptances being beasts.

I know two kids who got in with mediocre stats, one was hispanic and the other... you guessed it: a girl.

I would bet any money both of the kids from the Mars project that didn't get in were asian or white males. Sometimes it just boggles my mind.

btw, no I did not apply to MIT.

i did and i got rejected :(

both were indians , and mit accepts average 5 indians every year

ahhhh they were internationals

that is just as well

i got rejected too and so did another person who was very qualified and would have done well...oh well.

its alright, virtually every person that applies could succeed there.

back to the original idea. My SAT math is only 680, but my ACT math is 35, so I am hoping they don't worry about my SAT's. I wish I could have only sent the ACT...

finally somebody with less than 750 on SAT math....thanx a lot eihunno.

SAT math really sucks. 2 mistakes make the difference bettwen a 700 and a 780 ......dont admission officers know this?

i see what you are saying its just that it gives you such a huge curve to begin with that if you drop below then there is nothing you can do. Cuz, anyone over the 88th percentile got an 800.
