I've been reading in a bunch of places but i still am sorta confused. If I want to apply to an Ivy League (UPenn and Princeton) is it better to take Math 1 or 2? and what score should i aim for??

Either is accepted. If you have taken precalc, you’ll most likely score better on math II than math I, since the curve for the former is much more lenient.

Aim for at least above 700, preferably over 750—as high as possible, obviously :).

Okay thanks!!

If you are at least a B student in Pre-Calc, take Math Level 2, as the previous responder said, the curve is more lenient.

Im in AP Calc and an A student (so far) but Math 1 seemed wayy easier than Math 2. I took math 1 before (didn’t study and got 660)

It’s easier to get a better score on Math II than on Math I, but a lower score is also looked down upon more because the curve is so lenient. I’d do a few practice tests for Math II from Princeton or Kaplan and see where you stand. If you’re hitting, 750+, go take it and be happy. If you’re hitting a score slightly lower than than, review the concepts you’re weak on and go for it again. It’s entirely possible to hit 800 on Math 2 with a week of studying (I did lol) and it’s definitely much easier to hit a high score on Math 2 than Math 1, provided you’re decent at math. All other things being equal, a high Math 2 score is ‘stronger’ than a high Math 1 score, even though Math 1 might be “more difficult” to get a higher score on. If you’re applying to Ivies, definitely take Math 2.

Okay thanks!! I guess i need to brush up on my math 2 then!
