Sat minimum reccomended?

Ok, i used to think that a 2100 sat and a 10% rank with some sweet ecs (and maybe a rockin hook) would be enough for harvard, now that i have come to this website, i realize thats not the minimum reqs harvard wants. so im now asking what you all think those minimum stats should be. im thinking top 10% and a near-perfect gpa coupled with a 2200 sat and some sweet ec's and hook would be enough. what do you think?

1200 old scale AT LEAST (600 on each section). You generally won't see people admitted with less than that. 1200 shows you can do the work. Now, if you are a bit higher on the income scale, so should your SAT (or try to be) unless you're donating a building.

Concentrate on essays and standing out, not looking the same. SATs and GPAs aren't as valuable as they used to be with grade-inflation and with the creation of high-priced SAT workshops. Essays and recs, though, show much more of you the person and make you look less like a faceless number.

so true. Especially GPAs... I hate GPAs so much lol

Yeah, if someone did get a 2100 and a 30 outa 300 (not me, i havnt even taken the sat) and wrote some good essays and got good recs, do you think they would get in? What if they had a demonstrated interest in some EC. Also would it work well for the student to have a extreme passion for one ec, but also have a bunch of smaller ecs, even if they dont really demonstrate passion for it (but they had leadership/awards?)

I thought you were doing a MINIMUM requirement thing. Minimum is the requirements that you have to get or they just don't look at your app.

"1200 old scale AT LEAST (600 on each section)"

WOW! that's low

actually, for harvard, minimum 1100 to be recruited as an athlete....

its actually pretty high considering that its usually 900 SAT for athletes at other schools

Harvard has a minimum SAT score? I mean, I know that the lower your SAT, the lower your chances, but I never thought Harvard would say "Only people who have a SAT score of at least x can consider applying."

"Only people who have a SAT score of at least x can consider applying."

I think what everyone is saying is that anyone can apply with any SAT score (Harvard cannot limit who can apply). The minimum score shark inquired about was the minimum that can get you accepted.

yeah, why would harvard want to set bar for how high the sat should be. if a person with a 1100 sat applies, then harvard just has to reject him, and pocket the 70$ while improving their usnews rank at the same time. im asking what to lowest anyone has gotten in with. btw, they cant be the son of the president or something like that, they have to be a normal white or asian guy. (i swear i have another thread that looks almost like this one now)

hmm...then the SAT will prolly be really high lol

I heard someone got in with an 1180 and she was from Compton. I actually saw last year's valedictorian at my school get in with a 1240 or 1260.

i think its more important to be validictorian then to have high test scores. it seems like no one gets in with out being at least top 5% in a large class or validictorian in a small one. (of course this is bad for me)

i say 1450 + to be safe.

Valedictorian at my school (asian) got in with 1360 last year, #2 with 1420

so the min. score is 1800+
