SAT October 2017 Score Sharing

Hello everyone, I am a rising Junior. I took SAT seriously with boot-camps prep during summer, and I just finished another one a month ago. I am an international student, and I had done so many practice tests. Most of my test scores filled in mid-1200, but recently I scored in 1300+, which was 1350. I was aiming to score 1350 at Oct test (at least 1300), and I want to get 1400+ before I applied to colleges.

(I did also self study with Official SAT Book, Barron and Khan Academy).

Just to clear things out, I got the SAT Oct. score: 1280 (RW: 570, M:710). I am really upset to get this score tbh. For me, those boot camps and private companies did not help me much like I expected. My weakest part of SAT was Reading and I never managed to get 300+. I DECIDED TO SIGN UP FOR DECEMBER TEST, AND SELF STUDY IT, SO PLEASE:

I would like anyone to share the score, and please tell me 1) what materials you prepped for? (Book, Website: Khan Academy? PrepScholar?) 2) List out your study plan, or how you study effectively?

Sincerely, Sam.

not sure if you already took the SAT, but definitely don’t study with Kahn Academy. Kahn Academy does not give good strategies on how to answer questions, nor does it use actual SAT questions which is the most important thing to study with when studying for the SAT! I suggest getting the college board book which has actual SAT tests and take a bunch of those practice tests. Also Prep Expert has really good SAT classes and amazing strategies which helped me a lot! And the founder published a bunch of SAT books with strategies for each section of the SAT which I totally recommend looking at! His name is Shaan Patel

@jules34 The College Board is partnered with Khan Academy, which is one of the reasons I would recommend it.

@“Sam Roan” I took the SAT this past April and got a 1570 (780M/790ERBW). I used Khan Academy, and it worked for me for a few reasons:

  1. It’s free. Enough said.
  2. It’s mobile. As a ski racer, I spend a lot of time in a moving vehicle. I was able to use my phone and Khan Academy to utilise otherwise wasted time.
  3. It’s personalized. I plugged in my PSAT score and it gave me questions similar to those I missed. I’d assume you can do the same with past SAT scores.
  4. It’s structured. Khan Academy allows you to schedule practice sessions, which really helped keep me focused.

The only studying I did besides Khan Academy was a practice test. Personally, I think there’s only so much help studying can do. I believe the most instrumental thing in getting a good score was all the reading I did as a kid. It increased my reading speed, which really helps on timed tests.
