okay, so i took the SATs twice already and did decent but for the schools i wanted to apply to i really need to do better, especially in critical reading.

1st time:
CR: 640
Math: 720
Writing: 660

2nd time:
CR:600
Math:650
Writing: 680

as you can see, i only went up in writing the second time and i was really hoping to go up in Critical reading. i only took one SAT II so far and i feel like i NEED to take a second on in order for it to be worth anything. do you think its worth it for me to take it one more time in a last effort to improve critical reading?!?!?

AHHHH, im so upset. i did well enough on matht he first time that i was really just concentrating on critical reading the second time. im so disappointed but i feel like i should be taking the SAT II's instead......what do you think?

OP: it happens more often than you think. I got a 680CR/640M/590W my first time, and 670/600/610 my second time.
I was only really looking at a couple of really top ranking schools, so I took a couple of them off my list, kept my dream school on my list (because you never know), and then I looked at some more schools where my score is perfectly fine.

However, if "settling" is not what you want to do, then retake the tests. study over the summer to get really ready, and rock the tests. you're not that far off from a score that would be perfectly fine at any school, so I have no doubt that you can do it. it's just a question as to whether the time and effort is worth it to you.

I agree: try the ACT. Spend some time prepping for it first, though. And if your transcript shows a rigorous course load and very good grades, consider the SAT optional schools. (Your current scores are good enough for most schools, though.) Have you taken your SATIIs yet?
