My parents keep insisting that the SAT is only necessary if I am going to apply out of state. Is this true? I took the ACT once and got a 33. I am going to take it in March again and will hopefully do better. Any point in taking the SAT as well?

Honestly I feel that everyone should take the SAT & ACT at least once regardless of the matter just to get a feel of both test.

My high school pushes for ACT over the SAT because they feel its “easier” . Well, after taking the ACT twice, i finally decided to sit for SAT and scored better then both of my ACT scores.
Meaning the choice of test you take & scores you send to colleges should be based on your preference and performance.

Applying to in state or out of state has absolutely nothing to do with which test you should take. Colleges accept both ACT &SAT equally.

The only thing I can think of they meant is the SAT subject test, which still has nothing to do with out of state, but typically the more elite & Ivy League college prefer them.

Your ACT score is very good, so I don’t think it is necessary to take the time to learn how to excel on the SAT. Your time is better spent working on your GPA or ECs.
